The Logic/Latin Teacher at Donum Dei Classical Academy plays a vital role in equipping students with essential language skills and critical thinking abilities, fostering a deep appreciation for classical education. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Pursue the ACSI Teacher Certification, Classical Educator Equivalent, CA Teacher Credential, or Master’s in Classical Education within two years of initial employment.
  • Professional working experience in relevant field(s).
  • Commitment to ongoing training and spiritual formation throughout the year.
  • Be passionate about serving families and connecting them to our community as they navigate the journey of discernment, application, and enrollment.
  • Align with DDCA’s vision to seek the peace and prosperity of our city by cultivating spiritually rooted and classically formed students who, alongside their families, serve and live redemptively for the glory of God.
  • Be devoted to the truth of the Gospel and to Jesus as Lord.
  • Serve as a minister of the Gospel.
  • Be in good standing with a Christian church, which includes weekly attendance and participation as an active worshipper.

Responsibilities

  • Teach Logic I (Informal Logic), Logic II (Formal Logic), equipping students with critical reasoning skills and the ability to construct and analyze arguments.
  • Integrate Socratic dialogue, debate, and classical rhetorical techniques to cultivate logical thinking and articulate reasoning.
  • Guide students in recognizing logical fallacies, constructing sound arguments, and applying logic to interdisciplinary subjects.
  • Teach 5th Grade Latin through Logic III Latin (four levels), guiding students through the Lingua Latina curriculum with a focus on grammar, translation, and oral proficiency.
  • Engage supplemental curricula to enhance learning as appropriate
  • Foster a love for classical languages, demonstrating the relevance of Latin in historical, literary, and theological contexts.
  • Develop and implement engaging lesson plans that align with the school’s classical education philosophy and state learning standards.
  • Provide structured instruction in Latin vocabulary, syntax, and reading comprehension, encouraging active student participation.
  • Organize and maintain a structured classroom environment that fosters academic discipline, respect, and virtue.
  • Implement effective classroom management strategies, routines, and rhythms to ensure an orderly and productive learning atmosphere.
  • Monitor student progress through assessments, discussions, and written assignments, providing timely and constructive feedback.
  • Use FACTS for grading, report cards, and communication with students and parents.
  • Maintain high expectations for student engagement, participation, and intellectual rigor in both Latin and Logic.
  • Communicate regularly with parents regarding student progress, classroom activities, and academic expectations.
  • Collaborate with other faculty members to integrate Latin and Logic within the broader classical curriculum.
  • Attend faculty meetings, professional development workshops, and training sessions to enhance instructional effectiveness.
  • Provide lesson plans for substitute teachers and secure a substitute when needing to be absent (sickness, doctor's appointments, jury duty, etc.).
  • Support and contribute to the school’s mission of cultivating wisdom, virtue, and a lifelong love of learning.
  • Engage in professional development, school events, open houses, and student enrichment opportunities.
  • Support with drop-off, pick-up, recess duties
