Under close supervision, the Law Clerk Intern researches laws, reviews case decisions, and gathers facts to help attorneys prepare legal documents. This role includes assisting with briefs, pleadings, motions, and trial binders, maintaining organized case files and correspondence, and attending court to support assigned attorneys. ________________________________________ What You’ll Do • Conduct legal research using statutes, court decisions, and legal articles to support assigned cases. • Analyze information and prepare written summaries or recommendations for attorney review. • Draft or assist in drafting legal documents such as briefs, pleadings, and sentencing memorandums. • Maintain organized case files and related correspondence. • Attend court proceedings to assist the assigned attorney. Requirements

  • Must be enrolled in Law School.
  • Possess a valid motor vehicle operator’s or chauffeur’s license.
  • Must maintain a valid driver’s or chauffeur’s license.
  • Ability to communicate, operate office equipment, handle supplies, and to prepare written documents.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct legal research using statutes, court decisions, and legal articles to support assigned cases.
  • Analyze information and prepare written summaries or recommendations for attorney review.
  • Draft or assist in drafting legal documents such as briefs, pleadings, and sentencing memorandums.
  • Maintain organized case files and related correspondence.
  • Attend court proceedings to assist the assigned attorney.
  • Conducts research to identify the appropriate laws, judicial decisions, legal articles, and other material relevant to the assigned issue.
  • Analyzes information and prepares written recommendations used by the attorney to decide how the case should be handled.
  • Prepares or assists attorneys in preparing legal documents such as briefs, pleadings, appeals, contracts, and deeds using specialized software.
  • Maintains files of case documents and correspondence.
  • Utilizes current county-wide and/or department specific software to complete assignments.
  • Assists preparing discovery to send to defense counsel.
  • Assists in the preparation of FOIA responses.
  • May obtain affidavits and assist the attorney during trial.
