About The Position

The Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC) at The University of Texas at Austin is one of the leading supercomputing centers in the world, supporting advances in computational research by thousands of researchers and students. TACC staff help researchers and educators use advanced computing, visualization, and storage technologies effectively, and conduct research and development to make these technologies more powerful, more reliable, and easier to use. Must be eligible to work in the US on a full-time basis for any employer without sponsorship. Reporting to the LCCF Deputy Director and Project Manager, the Assistant Director for Project Operations leads day-to-day project operations across budget, schedule, and change management functions for the NSF Large-Scale Computing Facility project managed by the Texas Advanced Computing Center at the University of Texas at Austin. This role is designed to grow toward independent decision-making authority within established thresholds, while maintaining close coordination with the Project Director and Deputy Director/PM on higher-impact decisions and strategic directions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and at least five years of experience managing executive operations.
  • At least five years of experience in strategic relationship management with various stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated experience managing reporting and tracking for federally funded grants.
  • Demonstrated experience in complex grant development.
  • Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and implements cost control systems; manages budget execution and prepares variance analyses; makes budget decisions within approved thresholds and escalates decisions above threshold with analysis and recommendations
  • Establishes and maintains schedule milestones and performance metrics; approves schedule adjustments within established parameters and escalates significant changes with recommendations
  • Reviews and dispositions change requests within delegated authority; prepares higher-impact requests for project review with impact analysis and decision recommendations
  • Implements the project Risk Management Plan, maintains the risk register, and brings risk assessments with recommended responses for project discussion
  • Coordinates with work package leads to ensure execution aligns with approved scope; identifies execution issues and escalates with recommended actions
