Scope of the Position The Lead Advanced Practice Provider (Lead APP) is responsible for representing Logan Health Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) at the administrative level as a voice in leadership, while promoting evidence-based clinical practice, overseeing APP education and training, encouraging the development of research and quality improvement projects, and collaboration with the Advance Practice Provider Council Co-Chairs/APP Champions under the guidance of the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) and the Vice President of Physician Group Practice (VP- PGP). The Lead APP will also continue to provide healthcare services to patients within his or her scope of practice in accordance with medical staff bylaws. Lead APP Selection and Organizational Expectations The lead APP will be chosen by the Logan Health Physician Executives, VP-PGP, CMO and CNO via a panel interview process. The lead APP must show excellent communication and leadership skills, knowledge of and adherence to Logan health policies and procedures and medical staff bylaws. The lead APP will promote professional development and leadership among Logan Health APPs.

Responsibilities

  • Physician Executive Committee
  • Quality Management Meeting
  • Compensation Committee
  • Education Committee
  • LHMC-LHW Executive Director/Physician Executive Committee
  • Other committees as assigned
  • Collaborate with APP Council Co-Chairs to facilitate implementation of ideas for APP role development, mentoring, and quality initiatives
  • Remain up to date on regulatory requirements and changes pertinent to medical staff credentialing and privileging of APP’s
  • Participate in the development and execution of APP training and education in collaboration with the Education Department through Journal Club, attendance at Grand Rounds and Schwartz Rounds, and coordinating educational presentations
  • Act as a resource for the Logan Health credentialing committee
  • Provides consultation for physicians and other disciplines regarding APP’s scope of practice and credentials
  • Collaborate with the legal team to update the Allied Health Policy A210 as needed
  • Expected attendance:
  • Monthly Lead APP meetings with the CMO and Co-Chairs of the APP Council
  • Monthly recruitment meetings with the CMO and the Manager of Provider Recruitment
  • Medical Staff Department meetings as needed
  • Recurring meetings with the APP Council Co-Chairs and the APP Champions
  • Coordinate APP activities during APP week (4th week in September each year) with the Planetree Program Manager
  • Network with nurse practitioner and physician assistant/associate programs in Montana to assist with clinical rotation placement and recruitment
  • Maintain the APP group email – add and delete members as need
  • Update APPs about new and termed providers
  • Update Logan Health APPs as needed with organizational announcements
  • Participate in Billings Clinic-Logan Health clinical integration activities when requested by BC-LH system leadership and/or Logan Health Senior Leadership
  • Encourage and assist with information regarding volunteerism in Logan Health sponsored events
  • Collaborates with the CNO and other leaders in strategic planning and quality initiatives.
  • Ensures an appropriate transition to practice and mentoring for new to the organization and newly credentialed APRN's into the facility.
  • Establishes and maintains a mentoring program for APRN's.
  • Ensures a succession planning process is identified and implemented for the APRN roles.
  • Participates in and supports a process for a periodic formal performance review that includes a self-appraisal, peer feedback process, and professional development goals for the APRN's.
  • Participates in the governing structures for Med-Staff and Shared Governance.
  • Assists with any pertinent research studies required for Magnet.
