About The Position

We are seeking and individual that partners with simulation faculty to develop and implement requirements and specifications for simulation activities to ensure a consistent, objective driven, and safe experience at the Program’s Human Patient Simulation Center. JOB DESCRIPTION: Coordinates and leads the development and maintenance of applications. Consults with customers to understand business problems and develops technical solutions. Provides technical expertise on applications, technical tools and software. Provides technical direction to customers and support staff. Performs other related duties as required. ADDITIONAL JOB DUTIES: Collaborates with simulation faculty to develop and implement simulation applications and assists simulation faculty with daily operations of HPS and Learning Space sessions. Maints all laboratory equipment and clinical/medical supplies to ensure operational efficiency and limited downtime. Responsibilities include requisition and procurement of laboratory materials and supplies. Assists with the development of HPS labs, skills labs, resident simulation labs and inter-professional simulation labs. Sets up, maintains, and assists with non-HPS laboratories conducted by the Master of Medical Science Program in Anesthesiology. Maints knowledge of high-fidelity simulation equipment and makes recommendations in software, hardware, and system components. Orients users of the HPS Center on operations and best practices. Instructs trainees on lab safety and protocols. Provides first-level repair and preventative maintenance for equipment. Serves as the primary contact for outside HPS contractors. Maints HPS and other lab supplies. Acquires and maintains trainee information, including evaluation data. Assists with analysis of evaluation data. Reports trainee evaluation data to faculty as directed by Program Directors. Trainees include students enrolled at Emory University; residents enrolled through the Graduate Medical Education Office of the Emory University School of Medicine; others who register for continuing education through Emory University’s Continuing Education Division or through the Emory University School of Medicine’s Office of Continuing Medical Education. Maints all records and data in accord with FERPA standards and guidelines. Must be knowledgeable about and comply with all standards for CDC’s universal precautions; OSHA standards for handling and disposal of medical waste; OSHA/DOT regulations for compressed gases and waste anesthetic gases. Instructs trainees about same. Attends workshops and meetings pertinent to the job as directed by Program Directors.

Requirements

  • Eight years of information technology experience OR a bachelor's degree and six years of information technology experience.
  • Positions in this classification may require a knowledge of one or more programming languages and/or a knowledge of an application and application tools.
  • Job requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment with faculty and trainees.

Nice To Haves

  • Baccalaureate degree in healthcare simulation, engineering, computer science, or a clinical discipline with four years of clinical experience (eg, emergency medical technician, respiratory therapist, medic, nurse) or baccalaureate degree in any field with a minimum of two years of human patient simulation experience.
  • Experience with software programs (Excel, Word, relational databases) preferred.
  • Experience with CAE Health HPS systems and LearningSpace system strongly preferred.
  • Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist (CHSOS) is preferred.
