About The Position

The Lead Behavioral Health Technician (Lead BHT) provides direct client care while serving as a shift leader for the Behavioral Health Technician team. The Lead BHT supports the BHT Supervisor by assisting with coordination of daily activities, ensuring staff follow facility policies and procedures, and helping maintain a safe, structured, and therapeutic environment for clients. The Lead BHT acts as a resource for BHT staff during their shift, assisting with client supervision, behavioral management, documentation expectations, and communication with clinical and nursing teams.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience in related field preferred
  • CPR/FA Certification – to be obtained within first 30 days
  • Fingerprint Clearance Card – have current card or show proof of applying within 7 days from hire date
  • Handle with Care – to be obtained within first 30 days
  • Successful clearance of pre-employment criminal/county/state background check
  • Successful clearance of pre-employment drug and alcohol testing
  • Successful clearance of TB PPD testing upon hire and annual screening of TB symptoms
  • Attending clinical oversight with BHP once every 2 weeks worked for a minimum of 2 sessions per month.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for BHT staff during assigned shifts.
  • Assist with coordinating daily assignments, rounds, and observation levels for BHT staff.
  • Provide guidance and support to BHT staff regarding client supervision, documentation, and safety procedures.
  • Monitor shift operations to ensure client care tasks and responsibilities are completed.
  • Communicate operational concerns, incidents, or staffing issues to the BHT Supervisor or nursing leadership.
  • Assist with training and mentoring new BHT staff during orientation and onboarding.
  • Support leadership by reinforcing policies, procedures, and expectations with staff.
  • Help ensure smooth shift transitions by communicating important client updates during shift report.
  • Provide consistent supervision and ensure client safety within the facility.
  • Escort clients to appointments and activities on campus as needed.
  • Assist clients with daily personal care and activities of daily living.
  • Provide one-on-one support and assist with behavior redirection when necessary.
  • Help orient new clients to the facility and daily program structure.
  • Accurately observe and document client behavior, condition changes, and vital signs.
  • Ensure required rounds and documentation are completed timely and accurately by staff.
  • Report significant findings, concerns, and incidents to the BHT Supervisor, Charge Nurse, or clinical staff.
  • Assist in reviewing shift documentation to ensure compliance with facility standards.
  • Recognize and respond to behavioral or mood changes including suicidal ideation, self-harm behaviors, or aggression.
  • Assist staff with de-escalation techniques and appropriate behavioral interventions.
  • Ensure staff follow observation levels and safety precautions for high-risk clients.
  • Maintain cleanliness and safety in client living areas and common spaces.
  • Ensure client belongings and valuables are secured according to facility procedures.
  • Utilize proper transfer techniques and fall prevention measures when assisting clients.
  • Support infection control and safety protocols.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with clinical, nursing, and administrative teams to support coordinated client care.
  • Use Microsoft Teams for real-time communication and operational coordination.
  • Monitor and respond to Outlook email communications appropriately.
  • Assist in communicating client behavior changes, attendance concerns, or safety issues to appropriate staff.
  • Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and interdisciplinary discussions.
