About The Position

The Buyer/Planner is responsible for the planning and purchasing of raw material/ingredients/packaging to support production. This includes managing select suppliers to ensure on time delivery at competitive pricing while managing inventory levels to prevent shortages and maximize turns.

Proficient with MS Office suite with strong Excel skills.

Ability to work in cross functional teams.
Minimum High School degree; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
A minimum of two (2) years of experience managing buyers in a manufacturing environment.
A minimum of five (5) years of experience purchasing in a manufacturing environment.
Or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
Must be able to work in a facility that handles allergens including but not limited to: wheat, soy, egg, milk, and mustard.
Must be able to sit at a desk and work on a computer for prolonged periods of time.
On site work day Monday through Friday as needed to accomplish required tasks.

Nice To Haves

Food manufacturing industry experience preferred.

Responsibilities

Analyze messages from the MRP system and place purchase orders in a timely manner to meet production requirements.
Monitor status of open purchase orders to ensure on-time delivery, including timely resolution, communication and mitigation of potential problems.
Expedite or defer orders as needed based on schedule/inventory changes.
Manage and resolve issues regarding PO to invoice discrepancies, returns and quality issues with suppliers.
Support junior buyers in their purchasing work as needed.
Lead efforts for sourcing ingredients.
Collaborate with internal customers to provide a high level of customer service and purchasing team support, including recommending solutions, resources and alternative supply options.
Researches ingredient substitution for better pricing.
Assists with formula pricing on current and new business opportunities.
Cross training with other roles in the supply chain team.
Performs other duties as assigned.
