About The Position

WSP is currently searching for a Lead Conveyance Consultant in the water and wastewater conveyance field. This position may be based in one of our Midwest offices through a hybrid workplace model and will support the broader Midwest region. Our water team is growing and in this role you will help shape the future of not just our organization, but our clients’ water and wastewater infrastructure as well. Your primary role will be to lead project planning and execution, making key decisions that will drive future ready solutions for our clients on our water and wastewater infrastructure projects. You will function as part of our dedicated local design teams, while being supported by our international expertise. You’ll work with water, transportation, geotechnical, tunneling engineers, and environmental experts. Specifically, this role will focus on the delivery of water and wastewater conveyance projects. Tasks may include performing the analysis, development, and design of water transmission and distribution systems, pumping stations, wastewater conveyance systems, water/wastewater planning, master planning, condition assessment, and rehabilitation of conveyance infrastructure. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering, with a focus in Water Resources or closely related discipline.
  • 7 to 10 years of relevant post education experience in water resources engineering.
  • Professional Engineering license required.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the design of water/wastewater/storm water pump stations including pump selection and sizing, piping configurations, hydraulic analysis, and integration of and with associated mechanical and electrical equipment and structural components
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the design of potable transmission mains, sewer trunk mains, distribution, and collection systems, including hydraulic analysis, development of alignment, plan and profile, corrosion protection, and associated in line appurtenances
  • Familiarity with condition assessment and pipeline rehabilitation best practices for both pressure and gravity pipelines. Familiarity with NASSCO assessment approaches.
  • Able to work effectively in Civil 3D and with a working knowledge or familiarity with modeling software such as WaterCAD, SewerCad, OpenRoads Designer, Bentley HAMMER, InfoWater, and/or InfoSewer.
  • Familiarity with AWWA Manuals such as M11, M23, M28, M41, M77, and AWWA Standards associated with water main system design.
  • Well-developed ability to make technical computations and calculations involving the application of engineering principles, understanding plans, specifications, and constructability considerations.
  • Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
  • Demonstrated high-level of self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Able to work independently with minimal oversight and provide guidance and leadership to junior team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC.
  • Well-developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach design goals based on system parameters to arrive at the most effective, economical, and logical solution.
  • Actively involved in local and national professional associations such as AWWA and WEF
  • Strong focus on client service with a desire to grow into a project management and client facing role.

Responsibilities

  • Design water transmission and distribution systems, wastewater collection systems, pump stations and lift stations, and perform water/wastewater master planning.
  • Collaborate within multidisciplinary teams on larger complex projects, serving as the task lead on various water/wastewater facilities projects.
  • Oversee and monitor more junior design teams to execute small to medium-sized projects including managing scope, schedule, and budgets, while building client and team relationships.
  • Manage project design tasks, permitting and construction coordination as necessary, and provide general guidance to junior engineering staff.
  • Uphold quality control standards and procedures for accurate design deliverables, analysis, and reporting.
  • Assist with development and scoping of small- to medium-sized projects.
  • Contribute to and/or lead the preparation of technical reports and presentations.
  • Coordination, review and approval of infrastructure design plans, ensuring data integrity and work is compliant with all applicable codes, ordinances, and regulations.
  • Remain current in latest water resources engineering techniques.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
