Position Summary The Lead Director, HR Business Partner, serves as the primary strategic HR advisor to Aetna’s Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and Aetna Finance Leadership Team, playing a critical role in shaping the organization, leadership, and workforce capabilities of the Aetna Finance function. This role partners closely with both Aetna Finance and HR leadership to shape, translate, and evolve people and workforce priorities for Aetna Finance, aligning overall Finance people direction with the unique needs of the segment. This role is accountable for advancing and delivering Finance people priorities by attracting, developing, and retaining top talent; optimizing organization design and operating models; enabling leadership and succession readiness; and driving effective change adoption. The Lead Director reports to the AVP, Finance HR Business Partner and leads the HR Business Partners supporting Aetna Finance sub-functions, ensuring consistent, high-quality delivery of people outcomes across the Aetna Finance function.

Requirements

  • Min. 10 years of relevant work experience.
  • Min. 2 years of experience serving as a strategic Partner to senior executive leaders, with demonstrated ability to influence and advise at the SVP/C-suite +1 level.
  • Min. 2 years of people leader experience.
  • Bachelors degree or HS Diploma/GED accompanied by equivalent experience

  • Experience supporting or working directly within a Finance organization, or formal education in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated success shaping and executing workforce, organization design, and talent strategies within complex, matrixed organizations.
  • Strong business acumen, with the ability to translate financial and operational priorities into effective people, organization, and workforce solutions.
  • Experience leading or supporting significant organizational changes, including restructuring, operating model shifts, or transformation initiatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to use workforce and talent insights to assess risk, inform decisions, and drive measurable improvements in engagement, retention, and performance.
  • Experience integrating enterprise HR programs and Centers of Excellence solutions into business-specific strategies.
  • Demonstrated personal commitment to understanding and applying AI and emerging technologies, including investing time in ongoing learning to thoughtful day-to-day integration.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a trusted strategic advisor to Aetna Finance executive leaders, enabling informed decisions on talent, workforce effectiveness, and organizational design in support of evolving business and financial priorities.
  • Build strong talent pipelines and succession readiness for critical Finance roles through effective selection, onboarding, development, internal mobility, and rigorous performance management, compensation, and recognition practices.
  • Partner with Aetna Finance leaders to design and evolve efficient and effective organization structures and operating models, translating business strategy into workforce plans that balance capability, capacity, productivity, and cost.
  • Leverage workforce, organization, and talent insights to identify risks, inform strategy, and drive measurable improvements in engagement, retention, and performance within the Aetna segment.
  • Own the quality, rigor, and consistency of annual people processes across Aetna Finance, including performance management, calibration, talent reviews, compensation planning, and promotion decisions.
  • Partner across HR Centers of Excellence to integrate enterprise programs and solutions in support of Aetna Finance priorities, ensuring alignment with enterprise standards while meeting segment needs.
  • Lead, coach, and develop a small team of HR Business Partners, ensuring consistent, high-quality execution of talent programs and people processes across aligned Finance teams.
  • Partner across the Finance HR team to ensure alignment and consistency of talent practices across segments.
  • Champion adoption of AI-enabled tools, digital capabilities, and Finance optimization efforts, supporting leaders and colleagues through change and fostering an adaptable, change-capable organization.
