About The Position

The Electrical CAD Lead Drafter/Designer is responsible for creating, developing, and maintaining 2D/3D wiring harness designs using EPLAN software and related EPLAN tools. This role supports engineering, manufacturing, and product development by delivering accurate harness models, routing information, components layouts, BOMs, schematics, and production documentation. The designer ensures harness schematics and components allocations meet technical specifications, manufacturing requirements, standards compliance, and project timelines.

Requirements

  • High school diploma required
  • Minimum 3 years of drafting or manufacturing experience
  • Only candidates within a 50-mile radius of the work location will be considered.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills, persuasive skills, and analytical problem-solving skills.
  • Work with individuals and groups to effectively participate within team environment.
  • Proficiency in Engineering software/tools (AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor & Enovia)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Experience with Autodesk Inventor
  • Knowledge of Product Life-cycle management systems and their structure
  • Fabrication methods for sheet metal, plastic, copper, and aluminum
  • Proper bus joint design
  • Up to 10% of your time traveling

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's Degree or Bachelors degree from an accredited institution
  • 8+ Years of experience with harness manufacturing or assembly processes.
  • Exposure to automation or scripting within EPLAN (macros, variant management).
  • Design experience with UL 50, UL 67, and UL 891
  • Certified Six Sigma Green/Black Belt
  • Proficiency with EPLAN product (5+ years)
  • Strong knowledge of harness components: Wires and cables, connectors and terminals, shielding, heat shrink, protective coverings
  • Able to understand technical documents and specifications such as schematics, mechanical drawings, 3D and 2D CAD documents
  • Able to understand critical requirements related to harness manufacturing and production.
  • BOM/MRP/ERP experience

Responsibilities

  • Develop detailed 2D and 3D wiring harness models using EPLAN software
  • Create and maintain wiring diagrams, routing and components layouts
  • Generate and update component libraries, including connectors, terminals, wires, and protective coverings.
  • Design harnesses based on engineering input, electrical schematics, and mechanical constraints.
  • Ensure compliance with harness design standards.
  • Produce complete production-ready documentation: BOMs, Wire Lists, Cut Lists, Assembly Drawings, Routing drawings.
  • Work closely with Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing, and Quality teams to ensure robust design outputs.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts for design workflows and documentation standards
  • Oversee and guide a team of drafters to ensure consistency and quality of drawings
