About The Position

The BWRX-300 Controls Systems Lead Design Engineer is responsible for design and analysis of I&C systems for GE Vernova's BWRX-300 Small Modular Reactor (SMR).

Requirements

  • Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Mathematics, or equivalent from an accredited university or college.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Boiling Water Reactor (BWR) or other nuclear power industry plant systems engineering, controls, or operations.
  • The preferred work location for this role is at the GE Vernova Hitachi Nuclear Energy (GVH) Headquarters in Wilmington, NC; but highly qualified (US based) remote candidates will be considered.
  • This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information. If applicable, final offers will be contingent on ability to obtain authorization for access to U.S. export-controlled information from the U.S. Government.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in nuclear analog and digital instrumentation, control, and monitoring with detailed knowledge in safety-related systems, hardware, software, theory of operation, including equipment environmental, seismic qualification (EQ) testing and field services or plant start-ups.
  • Experience in Distributed Control & Information System (DCIS) application and deployment.
  • Experience in plant system reliability, simulation, and cyber security requirements.
  • Experience using industry standards.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate accountability for cost, schedule, quality, and technical accuracy of assigned tasks.
  • Provide technical guidance and leadership, develop talent through mentorship, and act as the point-of-contact between your engineering team and both internal and external customers.
  • Lead I&C System design and development from conceptual through preliminary and detailed design, fabrication, assembly, production test, validation test as well as site installation, start-up test, and commissioning.
  • Collaborate with other disciplines to define and achieve functional, performance, reliability, availability, and maintainability (RAM) targets and failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA).
  • Perform, lead, or manage design and related technical scope for hand-off to internal or external suppliers for implementation of all applicable system and component requirements, interfaces, and functions. This responsibility includes design authority for performance, design assurance, qualification, standards, regulatory guidance, certification or licensing commitments, technical contract, human factors, safety hazards, reliability, cyber security, etc. of assigned systems.
  • Collaborate with system supplier implementation teams to develop, perform, and review system and integration test plans, procedures, and reports including factory acceptance tests, site acceptance tests, construction tests, pre-operational tests, and start-up tests.
