About The Position

This position is responsible for: Serving as a lead worker to Housing Monitors. The incumbent monitors the day-to-day routine operations of the Housing Monitors; monitors the activity of residents on an assigned shift ensuring safety, security, and compliance to house rules; maintains accurate and complete records and logs containing pertinent information; ensures the physical plant is maintained in a neat and proper order. As a lead position, the incumbent will work a non-traditional schedule to include weekend and evening shifts.

Requirements

  • Ability to meet attendance requirements.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language.
  • Ability to respond to emergency situations quickly and calmly while maintaining control and initiating the proper corrective action.
  • Ability to perform combinations of sitting, standing, and walking on a frequent change basis.
  • Distance of travel is usually within the same building.
  • Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting and carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs.) 5-10% of work time.
  • High school diploma or G.E.D. and one (1) year experience performing security or social service work preferred, OR any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Staff Oversight In collaboration with the manager/officer, plans, schedules, and assigns work of Housing Monitors; instructs and trains employees in the proper methods and procedures; monitors work in progress and upon completion to ensure compliance with established shelter policies and procedures; assists employees in resolving routine problems; ensures scheduling problems are resolved quickly and efficiently; notifies manager/officer of unique operational or personnel problems.
  • Resident Supervision Monitors the activities of the resident’s ensuring safety and compliance with house rules; checks the security of all windows and doors; monitors cameras and makes periodic rounds of entire facility; records any unique situations occurring on assigned shift. Monitors wake up procedures for residents; conducts room checks and assists with getting residents to breakfast and/or daily tasks.
  • Physical Plant Maintenance Monitors the use of the TV in lounge area; monitors light out and ensures quiet area for those sleeping; monitors those coming in late from night shift; monitors visitor policy. Responds to emergencies in a calm manner and initiates appropriate corrective actions in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Record Keeping Opens and closes the doors at designated hours of operation. Conduct and/or ensure client’s census are being taken at 9am, 4pm and 10pm and every two (2) hours during the night; also, after emergencies (ex. Fire) or when deemed appropriate to locate a client; complete the necessary paperwork; informs management team of any client irregularities. Completes required paperwork representing client intake for the day; inputs data into the computer in order to maintain computer records and generate client lists; prepares, tallies, and balances monies with receipts; drops the money in the safe. Monitors the reception area and performs clerical jobs as assigned. Answers telephone and respond to questions regarding the shelter operations. Answers the crisis hot-line and provides crisis intervention through telephone interviews and client counseling where applicable. Clean the lounge and snack area; replace household supplies as needed. Attend weekly staff meetings.
  • Training Complete the minimum number of annual required training.
