Groundworks is seeking a talented Lead HRIS Analyst (Payroll, Absence & Time Tracking) to join our tribe in Virginia Beach, VA or Irving, TX. The Lead HRIS Analyst serves as the functional owner and primary subject matter expert for Workday Payroll, Absence, and Time Tracking. This role is responsible for governing system design, configuration strategy, and ongoing optimization of payroll related Workday functionality to ensure accurate payroll processing, regulatory compliance, and scalable workforce management operations. This position provides functional leadership and configuration governance for payroll related Workday modules, ensuring system integrity, configuration consistency, and alignment with organizational policies and regulatory requirements. The Lead HRIS Analyst partners closely with Payroll, Human Resources, Finance, and Information Technology to design, implement, and continuously improve payroll related system capabilities and serves as the primary authority for payroll related Workday configuration and functional design decisions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Information Technology, Business Administration, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of Workday HRIS experience with functional expertise in Payroll, Absence, and Time Tracking.
  • Experience configuring payroll-related calculations, accruals, balances, retroactivity, and compliance rules.
  • Strong understanding of end-to-end payroll processes, payroll compliance, and system configuration impacts.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot system issues, manage multiple priorities, and support cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Workday Payroll, Absence, and/or Time Tracking certification.
  • Experience supporting multi-state, multi-jurisdiction, or Canadian payroll.
  • Experience supporting payroll integrations and external payroll vendors.
  • Experience serving as a functional lead or subject matter expert.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the functional owner and subject matter expert for Workday Payroll, Absence, and Time Tracking.
  • Configure, govern, and optimize payroll, time tracking, and absence functionality, including calculations, accruals, balances, validations, and schedules, to ensure accurate payroll processing and compliance with regulatory and organizational requirements
  • Support payroll operations by troubleshooting system issues, supporting retroactive adjustments, and assisting with payroll audits and year-end activities.
  • Ensure configurations align with organizational policies and applicable federal, state, provincial, and local regulations.
  • Serve as the functional owner of Workday Payroll, Absence, and Time Tracking, with accountability for configuration governance, system integrity, and operational reliability
  • Establish and maintain configuration standards, governance practices, and documentation to ensure consistent and compliant system operation
  • Evaluate business requirements and determine appropriate system configuration solutions aligned with organizational and regulatory needs
  • Ensure payroll related Workday configurations support accurate payroll processing, regulatory compliance, and scalable operations
  • Serve as the primary functional authority for payroll related Workday configuration decisions
  • Configure and maintain system rules, calculations, validations, accruals, balances, and schedules.
  • Develop and execute EIBs and other data load processes to support payroll, time, absence, and job-related updates.
  • Support payroll-related integrations and partner with technical teams and vendors to ensure data accuracy and system functionality.
  • Maintain system integrity through ongoing monitoring, testing, and issue resolution.
  • Partner with Payroll, HR, Finance, and IT to gather requirements and implement scalable system solutions.
  • Analyze system functionality and recommend configuration improvements to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and compliance.
  • Evaluate Workday releases and implement applicable enhancements.
  • Maintain documentation of system configurations, procedures, and operational processes.
  • Provide functional guidance and support to internal stakeholders.
  • Assist with knowledge transfer and support continuous improvement initiatives
