Position Overview JLL is seeking a skilled Lead IT Technician to support our comprehensive data center services program. This role involves providing on-site technical support, equipment management, facility operations assistance, and connectivity infrastructure management for client-managed data center facilities. This position offers the opportunity to work with cutting-edge technology while providing critical infrastructure support for enterprise clients in a dynamic data center environment, with specialized focus on connectivity infrastructure and fiber optic systems management. Requirements

  • Technical background in data center operations or IT infrastructure
  • Experience with server hardware, networking equipment, and cabling systems
  • Knowledge of rack installation and equipment mounting procedures
  • Prior data center experience, with preference for multi-tenant (COLO) environments
  • Best practices in cabling and wire management, including cable dressing and builds
  • Proficiency in both fiber and electrical (cat5/cat6/ethernet) networking, including fiber splicing
  • Understanding of interconnection provisioning functions, such as circuit design, inventory management, and system network inventory
  • Familiarity with interconnection standards and best practices for fiber specifications, panels, and terminations
  • Experience using Fluke testers or similar test equipment (per DIV 27 requirements)
  • Proven experience with installing, testing, and connecting fiber cables and panels
  • Administratively building and managing connectivity infrastructure using our new software platform, Carma.
  • Engaging and overseeing vendors for fiber trunk installations between MMRs and cabinets in the data halls and MMRs.
  • Physically installing and connecting fiber cross-connects in the MMRs.
  • Testing fiber ports and cables with appropriate equipment.
  • Training Operating Engineers to install fiber cross-connect cabling for on-demand customer requests.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow precise instructions
  • Excellent communication and client service skills
  • Ability to train site-level SMEs and complete interconnection requests
  • Strong computer user skills and technical program management abilities
  • Responsiveness to trouble tickets related to the physical layer and panel/port issues
  • Ability to test service end-to-end

Responsibilities

  • Escort client visitors to designated areas and provide oversight during facility visits
  • Assist with facility and process-related inquiries regarding service delivery
  • Provide courteous services as prescribed by client requirements
  • Position, level, and label server cabinets at designated locations
  • Install client copper and fiber cabling according to work order specifications
  • Perform rack installations, equipment mounting, and basic cable management
  • Unbox, assemble, and validate equipment per client instructions
  • Execute equipment unracking procedures with proper client verification
  • Manage third-party scope and installation of structured cabling.
  • Administratively build and manage connectivity infrastructure using our new software platform, Carma
  • Engage and oversee vendors for fiber trunk installations between MMRs and cabinets in data halls and MMRs
  • Physically install and connect fiber cross-connects in the MMRs
  • Test fiber ports and cables with appropriate equipment
  • Train Operating Engineers to install fiber cross-connect cabling for on-demand customer requests
  • Perform hardware component swaps including fan assemblies and power supplies
  • Conduct equipment reboots following proper client confirmation protocols
  • Provide crash cart services and technical support tools
  • Perform visual and cable certification testing with client coordination
  • Conduct equipment inspections and status reporting, including photographic documentation
  • Verify cable integrity and perform plug test validation
  • Complete equipment inventory management and labeling tasks
  • Manage shipment receiving, inspection, and secure storage operations
  • Provide after-hours, weekend, and holiday shipping/receiving services
  • Execute outbound shipping coordination and carrier pickup staging
  • Maintain 10-day secure storage protocols for client equipment
  • Update work orders with accurate time tracking and service completion details
  • Maintain detailed records in client ticketing systems
  • Provide status updates and completion notifications per established protocols
