This Lead Mapping Technician is directly under the Shellfish Lease and Aquaculture Program Coordinator. The primary purpose of this position is to provide support to the Shellfish Lease and Aquaculture Program and the Estuarine Benthic Habitat Mapping Program. This position is one of the lead technicians performing advanced technical work in sampling and monitoring activities associated with the programs. This position is responsible for planning and carrying out field work, including biological sampling and strata delineations with the use of drone and GIS technologies, safely navigating boats through coastal waters, maintaining, and designing sampling gear, coding, and analyzing data, mapping and reporting results, and ordering supplies and equipment. Work may involve the collection of samples for chemical, physical, and biological analyses based upon approved studies and/or research. Work requires report writing, including the accurate recording of data collected. Work involves the safe operation of boats and various sampling gear and equipment to sample lease sites and strata delineations for biological data. Employees have a significant public relations role and will maintain a working knowledge of changes in the industry and be able to explain Division policies and regulations. Work also includes the maintenance, repair, and fabrication of equipment used in the field. Work may include other duties as assigned.
