The Lead Materials Planner is responsible for overseeing the planning, procurement, and inventory management of materials required for production. This role ensures optimal inventory levels, timely delivery of materials, and alignment with production schedules. The Lead Materials Planner will collaborate cross-functionally with procurement, manufacturing, logistics, and finance teams to drive efficiency and cost-effectiveness across the supply chain.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in materials planning or supply chain management, with at least 1 year of experience in a lead role.
  • Strong knowledge of ERP/MRP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite).

Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage material planning strategies to support production schedules, customer demand, and company financial goals.
  • Monitor inventory levels and planned usage then adjust plans to minimize excess and obsolete stock.
  • Lead and mentor a team of materials planners, providing guidance and performance feedback.
  • Collaborate with procurement to ensure timely and cost-effective sourcing of materials.
  • Analyze demand forecasts and historical data to optimize planning accuracy.
  • Lead material planning efforts to support new product launches.
  • Coordinate with manufacturing, logistics and scheduling to resolve material shortages or delays.
  • Implement and maintain planning systems and tools (e.g., ERP, MRP).
  • Identify and drive continuous improvement initiatives in planning processes.
  • Maintain, and enhance metrics and KPIs on inventory performance, material availability, and planning efficiency.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Foster a positive work environment, encourage collaboration, and support professional development opportunities for team members.
  • Continuously evaluate and optimize materials planning processes and systems to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and reliability.
