About The Position

Eaton’s Electrical division is currently seeking a Lead Mechanical Engineer to join our team in Raleigh, NC! This is a hybrid role as long as you live within 50 miles of our Raleigh, NC facility. Relocation benefits are provided for candidates residing within the United States. Eaton’s Electrical Critical Power Solutions Division designs, manufactures, and services Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems, surge protection devices (SPD), batteries, Power distribution, monitoring/metering equipment and three phase electronic-based products to ensure power reliability in the most demanding applications. Our employees deliver mission-critical solutions to our customers’ most challenging energy management requirements. As a Lead Mechanical Engineer, you will lead the mechanical design and development of product lines, contributing to design, development, and prototype production. This role is essential in a cross-functional team, making key design decisions for integration. You'll mentor junior staff, research, evaluate, and document design methods to meet standards and codes, and supports management throughout development. You will also contribute to product expansion projects, Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VAVE) projects, and cost-out initiatives, ensure the delivery of high-quality and innovative solutions. The expected annual salary range for this role is $97,000 - $143,000 a year. Please note the salary information shown above is a general guideline only. Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution
  • Minimum Five (5) years of experience in Mechanical Design
  • Minimum Three (3) years of experience designing sheet metal components and assemblies
  • Minimum Three (3) years of experience with thermal simulations
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future. Eaton will not consider applicants for employment immigration sponsorship or support for this position. Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution
  • Proficient in Creo, AutoCAD or similar programs
  • Proficient in design and preparation of mechanical drawings, and Bill of Materials
  • Good understanding of power supply design and components, as well as good working knowledge of regulatory standards associated with the products and assemblies
  • In depth knowledge of Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) techniques
  • Experience with structural simulations
  • Experience developing large scale power electronics from concept to manufacturing launch
  • Experience with power distribution system design and protection
  • Experience working with multi-kW lithium ion energy storage systems including battery management and products designed for outdoor or non-climate controlled environments
  • Experience with Medium Voltage design and testing
  • Experience in Design for Manufacturability (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), and Design for Serviceability
  • Good understanding of Six Sigma methodology and processes
  • Familiarity with immersion cooling technologies

Responsibilities

  • Lead the successful launch of critical power infrastructure products that meet customer requirements and Eaton safety, quality, reliability, cost, and schedule commitments
  • Collaboate with cross-functional engineering teams to define requirements and create mechanical systems considering space, manufacturing, service, thermal, and other design considerations
  • Provide technical leadership to project team members by reviewing designs, and delivering feedback
  • Partner with global product development teams to solve problems related to performance, functionality, safety, reliability, quality, and component availability
  • Develop and support building engineering and validation prototypes as well as support manufacturing personnel during launch process
  • Leverage in-depth knowledge of industry design principles around sheet metal, plastics, and other manufacturing methods
  • Demonstate exceptional problem-solving skills working to design and layout systems while engaging cross functional teams to identify optimal layout while balancing Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and long-term serviceability
  • Participate in project-wide reviews of requirements, system architecture, and detailed design documents
  • Work closely with regulatory experts to ensure design meets UL and other certification body requirements
  • Identify opportunities for process, tools, and test methodology improvements, and drive those from concept to implementation
