The Lead, Oncology Medical Operations is accountable for driving operational excellence across the US Oncology Medical team. This role serves as a strategic partner to the Oncology Medical Leadership Team, enabling high‑quality execution of medical strategy through strong planning, governance, resourcing, budgeting, and execution tracking. The role ensures that medical activities are delivered efficiently, compliantly, and with measurable impact, while continuously improving ways of working across headquarters medical teams. The Director will lead critical operational processes, manage cross‑functional interfaces, and support organizational evolution to meet the needs of a growing and complex Oncology portfolio.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Life Sciences, Public Health, or related field.
  • Eight or more years of experience in Medical Affairs operations, business operations, or PMO within pharma/biotech.
  • Three or more years of experience owning annual planning and budgeting processes for a Medical or cross‑functional organization (including tracking vs. plan).
  • Three or more years of experience establishing and running execution tracking and performance management (e.g., KPIs, dashboards, operating reviews).
  • Three or more years of direct management experience of teams and/or matrixed resources, including vendors or outsourced project management support.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degree (MBA, PharmD, PhD, or equivalent) or formal training in strategy, transformation, or project management.
  • Experience supporting Oncology Medical Affairs or other complex, multi‑asset therapeutic areas.
  • Track record of driving operating model or process transformation across HQ and field medical teams.
  • Demonstrated skills with AI and other tools to increase operational efficiency
  • Strong reputation as a trusted strategic partner to senior medical leaders, with the ability to influence without authority.
  • Strong analytical, collaborative, and problem-solving skills in a matrix environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee core medical operations processes for the Oncology therapeutic area, including medical planning, execution tracking, and performance monitoring.
  • Drive consistency, rigor, and best practices across Oncology Medical Affairs operations.
  • Own and coordinate the annual medical planning and budgeting process, ensuring alignment to enterprise requirements.
  • Monitor execution against plans and budgets, proactively identifying risks, trade‑offs, and optimization opportunities.
  • Support resource planning, capacity assessments, and prioritization across the Oncology medical organization
  • Shape organizational ways of working and Identify es creative solutions to operational challenges and resourcing constraints
  • Identify and implement process improvements to simplify workflows, enhance transparency, and improve speed and quality of execution.
  • Manage Operations Associate Directors, offshore project management resources, and third-party outsourcing needs.
  • Lead roll-out and pull-through of US Medical Affairs-wide operational initiatives or tools; lead additional strategic initiatives, process improvement changes, and other strategic projects and programs as needed
  • Ensure adherence to established policies and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
