About The Position

POSITION SUMMARY: Perform all lead painting, spackling, general maintenance.

Requirements

  • HS Diploma or equivalent.
  • New York State Driver’s License.
  • Ability to read and write in order to understand equipment operating instructions and maintain logs and records of work performed and to interpret non-complex blueprints and manufacturer’s specifications.
  • Requires approximately one-year on-the-job experience.
  • Ability to stand and walk for up to seventy percent of work time and lift approximately 50 pounds.
  • Occasional exposure to excessive noise from machinery and to minor electrical shocks or burns from equipment.
  • Visual and auditory acuity.
  • As part of employment at Southampton Hospital, there may be occasions when travel to other locations is needed to support operational needs.
  • Prior to start date, the selected candidate must meet the following requirements: Successfully complete pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook Southampton Hospital’s Employee Health Services Complete electronic reference check with a minimum of three (3) professional references. Successfully complete a 4 panel drug screen Meet Regulatory Requirements for pre-employment screenings. Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s). Failure to comply with any of the above requirements could result in a delayed start date and/or revocation of the employment offer. The hiring department will be responsible for any fee incurred for examination.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares surfaces for painting by using sandpaper, wire brushes, steel wool and cleaning solvents. Removes old paint by applying liquid paint remover or by heating surface with a heat gun and scraping paint off. Fills nail holes, cracks and joints with putty, plaster and other fillers.
  • Prepares area for painting by removing fixtures, masking around areas being painted with tape and paper, and spreading drop cloths to protect flooring from paint splatters. Erects scaffolding, as necessary.
  • Applies coats of paint, varnish, stain, sealer, enamel lacquer and the like in order to decorate and protect interior and exterior surfaces, trimmings, furniture and equipment using such application apparatus as paintbrushes, rollers and trimmers.
  • Cleans area upon completion of painting and cleans painting equipment, brushes and other materials used and replaces all furniture.
  • On a regular basis, assigned responsibility for responding to emergency situations requiring immediate maintenance assistance; makes necessary repairs and/or notifies supervisor.
  • Assists higher classified personnel perform more skilled tasks associated with the maintenance, repair, and alteration of buildings and mechanical, electrical, and plumbing equipment.
  • Performs shift duties, as required.
  • Follows infection control practices and procedures for safety of patients, co-workers, and self.
  • The responsible individual may be required to service/maintain equipment or care for other responsibilities at the Hospital and/or any of the many "Off-Site Facilities" as determined by Director of Facilities and Engineering or appointed personnel
  • Keeps work areas clean, is compliant with Infection Control Policies.
