UPMC Hillman Cancer Center is currently Regular Full Time Lead Oncology Pharmacist, Charge to support the Hillman Cancer Center network Pharmacy location in Washington, PA. This position will be working a Monday through Friday daylight schedule with no holidays or weekends. The lead pharmacist in charge is a working pharmacist approximately 80%25 of the time with 20%25 allocated to pharmacy oversight and people management. The lead pharmacist in charge serves as license holder in the state where the pharmacy is located as well as pharmacist of record on the DEA registration certificate. The lead pharmacist in charge follows all applicable state and federal laws associated with this duty. The lead pharmacist in charge has oversight of a staff of pharmacists and technicians in a pharmacy and ensures compliance with corporate direction for policies, procedures, electronic medical records, purchasing and pharmacy management systems and staffing. The lead pharmacist in charge is responsible for optimization of pharmacy workflows, medication dispensing, regulatory compliance, staffing, formulary and inventory management, and team leadership. The lead pharmacist in charge assists in pharmacy budget forecasting and analysis as part of the business unit. Participation in quality improvement is essential as well as support of pharmacy residents, interns, and students in training as well as pharmacy technicians, as needed. A lead pharmacist in charge must maintain competency in operational and clinical work as well as growth in pharmacy management as appropriate.

Requirements

Responsibilities

  • Coach and mentor staff through continuous feedback.
  • Develop workflow guidelines and other necessary tools (assignment sheets, scheduling, etc.) to maximize productivity and standardize practices in the practice area.
  • Facilitate the development and completion of quality improvement and/or cost-reduction initiatives.
  • Maintain collaborative relationships with pharmacy, nursing, medical staff and other departments.
  • Consult with pharmacy leadership to discuss recommendations and issues as appropriate.
  • Oversee the daily activities and assist in training and education of pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and all associated trainees.
  • Provide timely, comprehensive and accurate drug information to providers, nurses, patients and personnel of other departments as appropriate.
  • Ensure adequate inventory of medications and supplies necessary for patient care.
  • Assist in procurement as needed by following established procedures.
  • Participate in recalls and shortage mitigation plans including implementation.
  • Maintain professional competency through participation in continuing education and staff development programs.
  • Provide formal and informal educational activities to various audiences.
  • Implement and uphold Executive Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee decisions with appropriate escalation per guidance if needed.
  • Meet salary, drug, and purchased services budgets with variances explained and justified.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance and quality in area of responsibility.
  • Lead by example for customer service and resolve customer relations issues for the pharmacy.
  • Ensure accurate billing of claims and services and troubleshoot billing and patient charge issues.
  • Assist with third-party audits as needed.
