About The Position

Oversees operations of the Pharmacy Technicians on a day-to-day basis, providing guidance as needed. Improves patient care and safety by promoting consistency within the department. Ensures compliance with current best practices, regulations, and policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of pharmacy experience, including experience within a specialized area.
  • New Hires: National Pharmacy Technician Certification upon hire.
  • NYS Pharmacy Technician Registration, If hired after 3/1/2022 must register within 6 months of hire date.
  • Existing Staff: National Pharmacy Technician Certification, If hired on or before December 27, 2021 must register by Feb. 28, 2022.
  • NYS Pharmacy Technician Registration, If hired on or before December 27, 2021 must register by April 30, 2022.

Nice To Haves

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Excellent mathematical skills for the preparation and distribution of pharmaceuticals.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills for routine interaction with hospital staff, patients, and visitors.
  • Should possess a basic understanding of hospital or long-term care pharmacy drug distribution systems, including unit dose, IV additive, and floor stock distribution methods; or should possess a basic understanding of retail pharmacy drug distribution systems as well as third-party billing issues and inventory control.

Responsibilities

  • Technician 50% of the time (potentially more dependent upon scheduling requirements).
  • Mentors and trains new employees to help them reach the standards of the department.
  • Serves as a resource to staff in resolving complex issues and by providing technical skills.
  • Assists in development and implementation of changes in departmental operations to improve performance within the pharmacy department, working in conjunction with the Leadership Team.
  • Acts daily to identify staffing concerns and workload issues or policy questions, and ensures that the appropriate staff is resolving issues or finding appropriate answers, providing support as necessary. In some cases, the Technician Coordinator will resolve the issue.
  • Responsible for direct reports, monthly rounding, yearly performance appraisals, and HML evaluations. Will participate in any performance improvement plans for direct reports.
  • Oversees shift to shift hand off and ensures the process is effective.
  • Participates in leadership team meetings as needed.
  • Requires a weekly meeting with Pharmacy Director to ensure proper flow of information and mentoring.
  • Other duties as assigned.
