We are seeking a Lead Back End Software Engineer who is passionate about marrying data with emerging technologies. As a Capital One Software Engineer, you’ll have the opportunity to be on the forefront of driving a major transformation within Capital One. About the team: We’re looking for a hands-on Tech Lead to drive the evolution of our mission-critical platform powering Capital One’s Commercial Lending Underwriters. In this role, you’ll lead from the front, balancing high-impact individual contribution with regular pair programming to ensure technical excellence across a modern stack of Angular, NestJS, and AWS. You’ll serve as the engineering engine behind our backend modernization and data governance initiatives—navigating a diverse ecosystem of legacy systems in Java, .NET, Go, and Python—while partnering closely with a Technical Product Owner to translate complex business needs into a streamlined, high-performance architecture. If you're a seasoned engineer who thrives on architecting scalable systems while staying deep in the code, this is your chance to shape the future of our commercial lending platform.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree
• At least 4 years of professional software engineering experience (Internship experience does not apply)
• At least 1 year experience with cloud computing (AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud)

Nice To Haves

• Master's Degree
• 7+ years of experience in at least one of the following: Java, Javascript, Python, Go, or Node.js
• 2+ years of experience with AWS, GCP, Azure, or another cloud service
• 4+ years of experience in open source frameworks
• 1+ years of people management experience
• 2+ years of experience in Agile practices

Responsibilities

• Lead a portfolio of diverse technology projects and a team of developers with deep experience in distributed microservices, and full stack systems to create solutions that help meet regulatory needs for the company
• Share your passion for staying on top of tech trends, experimenting with and learning new technologies, participating in internal & external technology communities, mentoring other members of the engineering community, and from time to time, be asked to code or evaluate code
• Collaborate with digital product managers, and deliver robust cloud-based solutions that drive powerful experiences to help millions of Americans achieve financial empowerment
• Utilize programming languages like Java, Javascript, Python, SQL, Node, and Go, Open Source RDBMS and NoSQL databases, Container Orchestration services including Docker and Kubernetes, and a variety of AWS tools and services
