Requirements

Minimum of 8 years of hands-on experience with Ruby on Rails, PostgreSQL, and Heroku in production environments.
Proven experience leading engineering teams, ideally within early-stage or fast-growing startups with fewer than 20 engineers.
Strong background in building, deploying, monitoring, and scaling production-grade web applications.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to partner effectively with product managers, designers, and executives.
Demonstrated ability to own technical strategy, guide architectural decisions, and maintain high engineering standards.
Comfortable operating in dynamic, high-growth environments while promoting long-term sustainability and team success.
Based in the United States or Canada, with availability during core working hours between 10am and 2pm EST.

Responsibilities

Lead and mentor a small engineering team by setting clear technical direction, performance expectations, and delivery standards.
Own architectural and technical decisions for the core platform, ensuring scalability, reliability, and long-term maintainability.
Break down complex projects into actionable technical tickets, define realistic timelines, and drive execution from planning to release.
Collaborate closely with executive leadership and product teams to align technical solutions with business goals and product vision.
Actively contribute to development by reviewing, writing, and improving production code when necessary.
Identify process improvements, raise engineering quality standards, and establish sustainable delivery practices.
Remove blockers, manage dependencies, and ensure consistent project momentum in a fast-moving environment.
