About The Position

The Lead Support Specialist will provide a supportive and safe environment in a community residential setting which promotes and facilitates growth, independence and community engagement for people with intellectual and development disabilities. Perform responsibilities professionally, in collaboration with other team members in accordance with MHA’s Core Values (Respect, Integrity, and Compassion), policies, practices, program funding and applicable regulatory agency guidelines.

Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license, safe and reliable vehicle, current auto insurance, and acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to work independently, manage time, and function effectively as part of a team.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and computer skills.
  • Compassionate and adaptable to the changing needs of participants.
  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required; college degree in human services preferred.
  • Minimum of six months relevant experience, preferably with individuals with developmental disabilities or brain injuries.
  • Must maintain certifications in MAP, CPR, and First Aid.

Responsibilities

  • Provide respectful, person-centered support to participants in daily living skills such as hygiene, nutrition, cleaning, and community integration, adapting assistance based on individual needs.
  • Assist participants in accessing and navigating community resources, developing self-advocacy skills, and engaging in recreational and social activities that promote independence.
  • Support participants with budgeting, money management, and maintaining accurate financial documentation in accordance with agency policies.
  • Facilitate safe and reliable transportation for participants to appointments, events, and community activities; maintain a functional vehicle and complete required driving trainings.
  • Implement and document Individual Service Plan (ISP) goals and support strategies while participating in ongoing assessment and planning.
  • Respond to crisis situations, medical emergencies, and mandated reporting requirements according to agency and regulatory policies.
  • Monitor health needs, assist with scheduling and attending appointments, administer medications per MAP standards, and document vitals and follow-ups as required.
  • Complete all required documentation in a timely and accurate manner, including daily logs, incident reports, medication and money counts, and participant progress notes.
  • Promote a safe and clean-living environment through regular safety checks, fire drills, emergency preparedness, and adherence to health protocols.
  • Collaborate with the team by attending meetings, supporting shift coverage, training new staff, and maintaining a professional and organized work environment.
