About The Position

The Tech Lead-Digital Press Operator is primarily responsible for work performed on the HP Pagewide Inkjet press with the Hunkeler PF7 finishing equipment running inline. Job functions include managing a team of 4, create and provide training for new operators, provide troubleshooting support to team. Additional functions include and cost-effective use of consumables. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, performing the work to job specifications as well as in accordance with our safety, quality, on-time delivery, cost efficiency, and process reliability expectations. Performance Objectives: minimal defective prints/quality issues, timely completion of assigned jobs, high performance, safe work practices, professional communication

Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED or higher degree
  • 3-5 years’ experience in a printing / production environment
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Demonstrates an understanding of color theory, imposition and printing.
  • Ability to quickly diagnose print and mechanical problems for both the HP T240 and Hunkler PF7 preferred, Hunkler POP6 or PF8 accepted.
  • Demonstrates good troubleshooting skills.
  • Demonstrates the ability to effectively and efficiently maintain and repair the press.
  • Shows initiative for learning and retaining mechanical skill associated with the Digital Press.
  • Demonstrates attention to detail and accuracy; monitors own work to ensure quality; exhibits sound and accurate judgment.
  • Reacts well under pressure and manages competing demands.
  • Prioritizes and plans work activities and uses time efficiently – excellent time management skills
  • Demonstrates professional behavior when communicating and working with other employees, vendors and/or customers.
  • Promotes and ensures effective communication and interaction among departments.
  • Works overtime as assigned

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates daily workload for team.
  • Understands all systems and manufacturing capabilities and processes and looks for opportunities to streamline workflow.
  • Inspects printed material in accordance with the work instructions to ensure quality and consistency.
  • Makes all appropriate updates to systems and logs.
  • Utilizes Production software to log print time for each job.
  • Perform regularly scheduled maintenance on the press to reduce downtime.
  • Ability to troubleshoot problems on the press.
  • Provides job specifications in their entirety prior to starting the job to team members and ensures the instructions are followed accurately.
  • Collaborates with Prepress department when job specifics arise.
  • Reports all production related problems to Operations Manager.
  • Ensures all defined departmental standards for quality, productivity, efficiency and waste are met by team.
  • Able to identify different types of paper stocks and ensure correct type of paper is utilized in specific jobs.
  • Maintains confidentiality regarding employee, company and customer information.
  • Responsible for the successful completion of assigned tasks and projects.
  • Identify different types of paper stock used for jobs
  • Change and thread new rolls of stock as needed
  • Setup and maintain the Hunkeler PF7 Finishing line.
  • Complies with all safety and health policies, procedures and practices; actively supports safety improvement initiatives; uses materials and equipment in an appropriate and safe manner; carries out all tasks in a manner so as to not create a hazard to oneself or others.
  • Supports organizational goals and values.
  • Ensures current and new operators have proper training.
  • Performs other duties as required.
