As a core part of the WBG’s mission, the department focuses on developing, financing, and advising on transport infrastructure and services that are vital for economic growth, regional integration, and poverty reduction. Our work encompasses all modes of transport—including road, rail, maritime, and aviation—and covers both urban and rural environments. The department collaborates with public and private sector partners to design and implement innovative solutions that address emerging challenges such as climate change, rapid urbanization, technological advancements, and the need for improved supply chain resilience. Operating within the Transport Knowledge Bank, the selected candidate will provide global sector leadership on private sector participation in transport sector. The Lead Transport Specialist will help shape strategic approaches, develop scalable models, and translate global experience and market knowledge into practical solutions for country teams, with the objective of accelerating the pipeline of bankable transport projects and scaling private capital mobilization. The position aims to strengthen the World Bank Group’s ability to mobilize private capital in the transport sector by bridging policy dialogue with governments and bankable transaction structuring. The role will play a key part in guiding regional teams on policy dialogue, market creation, and transaction structuring. The selected candidate will work closely with regional teams across IFC, IBRD and MIGA, bringing sector expertise, transaction structuring experience and policy advisory capabilities. The position will also contribute to developing thought leadership and operational knowledge that can inform WBG engagement with governments and private investors across transport subsectors.
