About The Position

Under the direction of the Director of Learning Resources, the Learning Resource Specialist serves as a subject matter expert and strategic liaison between academic departments and digital learning operations. This role requires advanced knowledge in digital learning ecosystems, instructional resource integration, and academic support systems. The incumbent applies specialized expertise to manage complex workflows, ensure the integrity of learning materials, and support faculty and students across all teaching modalities. This position demands a high level of independent judgment, technical proficiency, and institutional knowledge to support the university’s academic mission.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated expertise in digital learning environments, instructional resource management, and academic support systems.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in higher education or a related field involving complex digital systems and academic operations.
  • Advanced proficiency in learning management systems (e.g., D2L), Microsoft Office Suite, and academic enterprise systems (e.g., Ellucian Colleague).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage technical issues and system integrations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and discretion in managing sensitive academic and technical information.
  • Capacity to work collaboratively across departments and with external partners to support institutional goals.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and staying current with emerging trends in digital education and instructional technology.
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Any equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred master’s degree in education, Business, Instructional Technology, Information Science, or a related field strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary academic liaison for course materials across assigned colleges/schools, ensuring alignment with curricular goals and instructional design standards.
  • Apply expert knowledge of digital learning platforms (e.g., D2L) to manage, troubleshoot, and optimize learning resource integrations, including deep links and third-party tools.
  • Collaborate with publishers and vendors to manage content updates, licensing, and software integrations, ensuring timely communication with faculty and academic leadership.
  • Conduct quality assurance reviews of digital learning materials and workflows prior to term launches, identifying and resolving issues that could impact teaching and learning.
  • Maintain and curate a comprehensive inventory of textbooks, OER, and digital resources, ensuring accuracy and accessibility across all modalities.
  • Provide advanced support and training to faculty and students on the use of digital tools and instructional resources, including troubleshooting complex technical issues.
  • Coordinate with Learning Design, Academic Chairs, and other stakeholders to align course development and redevelopment efforts with institutional standards.
  • Maintain and update Department Syllabi, ensuring compliance with academic policies and accuracy of learning resources and outcomes.
  • Analyze trends in resource usage and contribute to data dashboards and visualizations to inform strategic decision-making.
  • Participate in cross-functional meetings and initiatives to enhance collaboration, efficiency, and innovation in learning resource management.
  • Travel to education centers as needed to provide on-site support, training, and quality assurance.
