About The Position

As Legal Counsel, your primary role will be to assist the Parental Rights team with creating and reviewing public relations material regarding parental rights litigation and advocacy campaigns. You will assist with developing messaging, overseeing legal review, and working closely with the communications and marketing team to assist with strategically framing the cultural conversation on these topics. As Legal Counsel, you will work with to build and maintain key allied relationships to assist with meeting strategic goals for promoting parental rights, working closely with the litigation and legislative teams. And we will look for opportunities for you to provide limited direct support to and research for parental rights litigation efforts.

Requirements

• J.D., active license in at least one US state bar, and capable of meeting admission requirements in relevant jurisdiction within one year
• 1+ years of complex litigation experience

Responsibilities

• Conduct research for parental rights advocacy and resources.
• Review and be knowledgeable about complaints, motions, briefs, and other documents so that you can effectively review all public statements/content on parental rights cases.
• Represent ADF’s parental rights advocacy efforts in court of public opinion.
• Confer with colleagues to establish and verify facts, create accurate messaging, etc.
• Cooperate with Development team, including speaking engagements and other events.
• Interact with media regarding cases and issues.
• Advise allied attorneys on legal issues within areas of competence.
• Network and develop relationships with allied groups and attorneys and/or potential allied groups and attorneys.
