About The Position

A Legal Intern provides support to the Legal Operations team including the Legal Support team (e.g. paralegals and closers) on a wide range of transactional projects all of which support CHFA’s mission of furthering the availability of affordable housing and economic development in Colorado. Areas of work may include assisting with commercial real estate loan transactions; single-family mortgage loan transactions; contract and legislative reviews; legal research including on innovation projects and assisting with some administrative tasks. This position reports to the Director of Legal Operations.

Requirements

  • An interest in learning about working for a mission-based organization with a strong focus on transactional legal work
  • Some level of knowledge of Colorado real estate law, business entities, real estate and other business loans, real estate transactions, and familiarity with related documents is a plus
  • Legal research and writing skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Demonstrated ability to work productively and accurately in a fast-paced environment with multiple projects and important deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Strong and ethical decision-making skills
  • Ability to communicate, both orally and in writing, in an effective and diplomatic manner

Responsibilities

  • A variety of legal research and drafting memoranda
  • Research may include innovations in increasing the availability of affordable housing applicable federal and state requirements affecting CHFA’s operations and programs, etc.
  • Reviewing and drafting forms, contracts, and other legal documents relating to CHFA programs and services
  • Assisting with the development of a CHFA real estate training for CHFA staff
  • Joining commercial loan closing calls and meetings
  • Reviewing and summarizing legislation and its impact on CHFA operations
  • Assisting with loan closing binder filing
  • Other duties as assigned
