Job Summary: The Lender position is intended to be a transitional position which allows an individual time to learn the role of being a loan officer. The Lender will be required to mentor with an existing loan officer while having no lending authority. This period of time is recommended to be one year. Over this time period the Lender will be expected to develop underwriting skills by spending time with loan operations, compliance, as well as shadowing other loan officers. Over time the Lender will be given an increasing amount of responsibilities in accordance with their training goals and objectives.

Requirements

  • College degree (or equivalent work experience) required with emphasis in finance / business preferred; additional post-secondary education or training in courses related to the financial services industry is highly desirable.
  • 1 year of loan related experience required.
  • Ability to effectively communicate courteously and professionally in English (both written and oral) with customers and team members.
  • Must have a basic understanding of debt to income, debit coverage ratio, balance sheets, profit and loss statements, and basic tax returns.
  • Basic understanding of collateral such as real estate and equipment.
  • Must project friendly, courteous, and professional image at all times.
  • Effective listening skills and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Sound reasoning and judgment skills with the ability to problem solve and make proper decisions.
  • Requires strong sales experience and the ability to handle high stress situations.
  • Must be able to work in a team environment as well as promote the team concept in everyday actions.
  • Ability to utilize all necessary software applications as well as Microsoft Office
  • Good interpersonal communication skills to effectively relate to all levels of the bank staff and customers.
  • Must possess general knowledge of all banking services in order to match the needs of the customer with the best suited bank products/services.

Responsibilities

  • Exhibit a sense of urgency to provide the finest customer service at all times and in all forms of verbal and written communication.
  • Work with a mentor loan officer to develop underwriting skills.
  • Complete consumer and commercial lending school as designated by Loan Manager (Some travel and overnight stays may be required).
  • Read and understand Banks Loan Policy Manual.
  • Spend time with the Compliance Officer and Loan Operations to gain full understanding of the respective departments.
  • Work with mentor to meet training goals and objectives.
  • Develop portfolio management skills to include expanding existing portfolio, working past dues, understanding and clearing technical exceptions, and working renewals in a timely manner.
  • Accompany mentor on business development calls to establish customer rapport.
  • Regularly attend the Executive Loan Committee.
  • Learn to utilize Loan Offering Memorandums.
  • Prepare and present loans to the Executive Loan Committee.
  • Recognize cross-sell opportunities outside of own product specialty and refer to correct Banker to fulfill all of customers banking needs.
  • Be active in the community by joining and participating in civic clubs.
  • Perform all other tasks requested as they relate to the Bank and its functions.
  • All Team Members are accountable for compliance with all laws, regulations and adherence to established internal controls and procedures when performing their job duties.
  • Each Team Member is expected to be familiar with the legal and regulatory requirements and internal controls affecting his or her job responsibilities.

  • All Team Members shall be responsible for communicating upward, problems in operations, noncompliance with the code of conduct, or other policy violations or illegal actions.
  • Team Members must participate in required training on pertinent compliance laws and regulations as required by Signature Bank of Arkansas.
  • All Team Members will be committed to maintaining a high level of compliance with the Bank Secrecy Act and Anti Money Laundering, USA PATRIOT Act and Financial Recordkeeping regulations recognizing that all three acts are important tools in federal efforts to combat organized crime, terrorism and drug trafficking.
