About The Position

Lead the school library program by fostering a culture of reading, inquiry, and information literacy through diverse and inclusive resources, dynamic learning experiences, and innovative instructional practices. Collaborate with educators to integrate literacy, research, and technology into the curriculum while modeling ethical and responsible use of information. Ensure equitable access to resources and create an engaging library environment that supports student achievement, professional learning, and the district’s educational goals.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in library or information science from an accredited college or university
  • Valid Texas school librarian or learning resources specialist certificate or endorsement
  • Two (2) years of successful classroom teaching experience
  • Comprehensive knowledge of library and information science
  • Advanced in utilizing digital devices (personal computer, laptop, tablet, etc.) and software applications, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Slides)
  • Advanced organizational, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Ability to instruct and manage student behavior
  • Ability to model exemplary instructional pedagogy and effective teaching practices
  • Ability to embed state and national standards into the library space and library programming
  • Ability to incorporate district and campus goals into the school library program
  • Ability to exercise discretion and sound judgment when handling sensitive and confidential information.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, ethical conduct, and accountability in all interactions and responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Advocate for students' and staff's equitable access to resources and learning experiences.
  • Model master librarianship and collaborative teaching for future practitioners.
  • Support instructional growth in colleagues at the campus and department levels through Professional Learning and embedded support.
  • Create innovative solutions to complex problems.
  • Carry out the mission and vision of the campus, library services department, and district.
  • Provide services through servant leadership and make informed decisions based on what is best for the learning community.
  • Maintain professional skills and knowledge through membership in professional organizations and attendance at professional development provided by district, state, or national organizations in person or virtually.
  • Establish a culture of reading that supports student literacy (recreational, instructional, and curricular) through the development of library activities.
  • Collaborate and co-teach with all grade levels, content areas, the Digital Learning Specialist, and Instructional Coaches in various instructional settings by embedding reading skills, digital citizenship, information literacy, or inquiry instruction in all content areas and disciplines.
  • Create innovative and real-world instructional experiences for all learners by empowering all members of the learning community to be creators, risk-takers, and comfortable with failure as part of the learning process.
  • Provide instruction on the library catalog to support student TEKS related to order, hierarchy, and organization of information by subject area.
  • Model and instruct in using new print and digital resources and equipment.
  • Lead the school community in all digital citizenship and media literacy areas.
  • Curate and provide vetted and credible print and digital materials to support district curriculum and classroom instruction.
  • Meet the needs of all learners through current and relevant collection development that follows the district Selection Policy.
  • Oversee program administration of budget, including ordering library supplies, books, and instructional materials in various formats.
  • Systematically inventory and remove outdated and lost/missing library materials as per annual district requirements.
  • Create a welcoming library and community space that impacts on the school's culture.
  • Provide a flexible schedule and library space for inclusive, learner-centered activities that support collaborative learning environments.
  • Schedule using the library facility, equipment, resources, and personnel to provide an optimal library experience for students and staff.
  • Organize and maintain materials and equipment for easy accessibility and use.
  • Seek ways to involve stakeholders and the greater community in library programming and instruction.
  • Inspire and support the reading lives of the school community.
  • Use publicity, motivational activities, and exhibits/displays to promote an atmosphere conducive to learning.
  • Maintain an up-to-date public school library website according to established district standards.
  • Use social media to promote the library and programs to students, teachers, administration, parents, and the community.
  • Attend and contribute to campus and district PLC meetings.
  • Compile budgets and cost estimates based on documented program needs.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other required documents.
  • Comply with federal and state laws, State Board of Education rules, board policy, and all district and campus requirements and regulations.
  • Maintain positive customer service skills and relationships with all library users.
  • Follow the attendance policy as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Notify the school supervisor of schedule changes.
  • Follow directives and perform other functions assigned by campus/district administration.
  • Adhere to all district policies, procedures, and expectations as outlined in the employee handbook and administrative regulations.
  • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Participate in professional development, faculty/department meetings, and special events as assigned.
  • Perform additional duties assigned to support the mission and goals of the district and campus.
  • Direct the work of paraprofessional aide(s), student aides, and volunteers as applicable.
