About The Position

For over 60 years, Walker Therapeutic and Educational Programs has been a leading non-profit organization providing comprehensive programming in the fields of child welfare, children’s behavioral health, and special education. We proudly serve over 150 communities in MA, with our clients coming from diverse racial and cultural backgrounds, sexual orientations, gender identities and expressions, who struggle predominantly with anxiety and trauma. These services are offered through Residential, CBAT, and Intensive Treatment Programs, Special Education Day School, Therapeutic Middle-High School, Out-Patient and In-Home Therapeutic Services. Summary of Position: To work independently in the Walker School library 1-2 evenings per week to maintain the Walker School library collection, including books and audiovisual materials. To consult to teachers after school or through email on use of library materials. Collaborate with education staff after school or through email with regard to developing and implementing the library curriculum. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Experience as children’s librarian or school media specialist
  • Ability to be flexible and work collaboratively.
  • Must understand child development and the impact of emotional, behavioral, and learning disabilities.
  • Must understand issues of confidentiality.
  • Must be receptive to supervision and professional development.
  • Ability to work and stand for extended period of time.
  • Job may require bending, stooping, stretching, and lifting.

Nice To Haves

  • Degree in Library Science
  • Experience with similar population; expertise in children’s literature

Responsibilities

  • Maintain the Walker School library collection, including books and audiovisual materials.
  • Consult to teachers after school or through email on use of library materials.
  • Collaborate with education staff after school or through email with regard to developing and implementing the library curriculum.
  • Work independently, as a part of a larger multidisciplinary team, to further the emotional, behavioral, and educational development of children.
  • Maintain a library atmosphere that is conducive to learning.
  • Follow and implement all Walker policies and procedures.
  • Develop and maintain library collection, including audiovisual and computer software.
  • Manage circulation of materials.
  • Catalogue library materials.
  • Manage library budget, under the direction of the Principal.
  • Respond promptly to teacher requests for assistance in locating library books and materials.
  • All other duties, as assigned.
