About The Position

Under close supervision, performs a variety of duties supporting the circulation of library materials for the City of Canon City Public Library.

Requirements

  • At least one (1) year of experience in a position requiring direct contact with the public.
  • At least one (1) year of experience in customer service, or clerical role with experience filing/cataloging materials based on numerical or alphabetical identifiers.
  • At least one year of computer usage in an office setting, with experience using the Microsoft Office suite of products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • At least one (1) year of cash handling experience.
  • High School Diploma, or equivalent.
  • Have a valid unrestricted Colorado Driver’s License, or the ability to obtain one within sixty (60) days of employment, with a driving record acceptable to the City of Canon City.
  • Any acceptable combination of education, training and experience that provides the listed knowledge, abilities and skills may be substituted.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience working in a library setting.
  • Previous experience in book/material collection maintenance.
  • Experience with Adobe Suite, or similar software.
  • Library Support Staff Certification (LSSC)

Responsibilities

  • Performs a variety of basic support duties for the Canon City Public Library, including assisting patrons find materials, checking materials in/out, and assisting in the processing and cleaning of materials.
  • Performs shelving and book/materials collection maintenance.
  • Keeps collections organized and in proper order.
  • Provides excellent customer service to external and internal customers including but not limited to effectively listening and communicating, providing accurate information, offering solutions, assisting in resolution, and ensuring timely follow up as needed.
  • Assist with story times, craft activities, and programs for children, teens and adults.
  • Performs a variety of library support tasks, such as processing new books, operating cash register, making signs & other promotional materials.
  • Attends and participates in professional library conferences, seminars, and network committees, and attends and participates in staff meeting discussions.
