About The Position

The Library Assistant provides support to the RVU Frank Ritchel Ames Memorial Library by delivering exceptional customer service and assisting faculty, staff, and students with library services and resources, monitoring public areas, and ensuring the smooth operation of the circulation desk. This role contributes to the mission of Rocky Vista University and operates primarily within the library space, under the general supervision of the MT Assistant Director of Library Services.

Requirements

  • Excellent interpersonal skills - with the ability to welcome patrons, answer basic questions, convey messages, and report problems.
  • Excellent organizational skills – ability to come up with processes, document them, and follow up.
  • Strong communicative, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to multitask and problem-solve.
  • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite and Canva.
  • Intermediate level of computer skills, specifically with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
  • Ability to use discretion and work with confidential files.
  • Must be able to work effectively in a team-based, diverse environment.
  • Demonstrate effective time management skills and the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and follow-through.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Demonstrate professional demeanor.
  • Ability to lift up to 30lbs. with or without an accommodation.
  • Ability to stand for long hours and complete repetitive tasks.
  • Some college from an accredited institution.

Nice To Haves

  • MLIS, undergraduate degree, or research background from an accredited institution.
  • Familiarity with library management systems.
  • A minimum of one (1) year of experience in a library setting.
  • Previous Administrative Assistant experience.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor library entrance and public areas to maintain a safe and welcoming environment for all patrons.
  • Administer and oversee library circulation and reserves for the Colorado site.
  • Check items in and out of collection, and process new acquisitions to ensure they are ready for use.
  • Answer basic reference and policy questions to help patrons understand library policies and find the resources they need.
  • Keep the library's appearance organized and tidy for student use.
  • Maintain the order and cleanliness of the library’s physical collection.
  • Perform administrative duties for the Library Executive Team as assigned.
  • Partner with library colleagues to develop and execute library programs, events, or displays.
  • Restock learning materials supplies as needed to ensure that resources are always available to patrons.
  • Assist with minor collection development tasks to ensure that the library’s collection meets the needs of the community.
  • Compile statistics and present reports relating to the usage of library materials and spaces.
  • Other duties as assigned.
