About The Position

Southern Nuclear Operating Company’s (SNC) Regulatory Affairs Department is seeking a high performing professional., eExperience related to nuclear licensing and/or Regulatory Compliance is a plus. This position is primarily responsible for supporting inspections, reportability assessments and regulatory compliance requested licensing actions (e.g., license amendment requests, Inservice Inspection Alternatives, Inservice Testing Alternatives) for the SNC operating fleet.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from an accredited college or university is required for the engineer position. Advanced degree in Engineering or Law a plus. Applicable Nuclear experience, including military, will be considered for the analyst position.
  • Experience with understanding, evaluating, and dispositioning industry, regulatory, or technical issues is highly desired.
  • Ability to communicate well, to make presentations to senior SNC management, and to build trusting relationships with the NRC personnel is required.

  • Holding oneself accountable for personal safety and modeling safe behavior for peers
  • Relocation to Birmingham, AL required
  • Up to 25% travel is required.
  • Availability for after-hours plant support

Nice To Haves

  • Prior NRC experience (resident or regional inspector, NRR experience, etc.) or previous SRO license or certification is highly desired.
  • Plant specific knowledge of SNC plant Farley, Hatch or Vogtle  (including AP1000 design) is desired but not required.
  • Work experience in Licensing (e.g., writing license amendment requests) or Compliance (e.g., experience with NRC Reactor Oversight Process) is desired but not required.
  • Working knowledge of industry codes and standards, associated regulations, and design documentation sufficient to prepare response to regulatory actions and effective interpretations requested licensing actions is desired.
  • Strong understanding of the Corrective Action Program preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting resolution of regulatory compliance, reportability, and licensing issues actions impacting SNC sites and supporting resolution of these issues
  • Supporting sites during NRC inspection activities
  • Providing expertise in plant licensing basis, as well as generic and plant-specific licensing issues
  • Performing research, as required, to develop or support formal Regulatory positions
  • Providing complete task management of regulatory issues
  • Interfacing with the NRC staff regarding SNC compliance and licensing activities
  • Participating in and representing SNC at industry forums in support of SNC compliance and licensing objectives
  • Influencing industry and NRC in development of regulations generic licensing actions to benefit the sites
  • Interfacing with SNC corporate and plant engineering departments in support of licensing activities
  • Updating SNC procedural guidance and requirements to reflect latest industry requirements and best practices.
