About The Position

The Life Accounting Staff Associate supports the accounting and financial reporting functions related to life insurance products. This role assists in maintaining accurate financial records, preparing journal entries, reconciling accounts, and supporting regulatory and internal reporting requirements. The associate works closely with finance, actuarial, and operations teams to ensure financial data is complete, accurate, and compliant with company policies and regulatory standards. The role also supports end users by resolving accounting differences and assists in developing new accounting procedures.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • 1–2 years of accounting or financial reporting experience preferred
  • Basic understanding of accounting principles (GAAP)
  • Knowledge of life insurance accounting concepts such as premiums, reserves, and commissions preferred
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications

Nice To Haves

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in business, finance, or a related field preferred
  • Internship or experience in insurance accounting or financial services is a plus
  • Experience with accounting systems or financial reporting tools is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and record journal entries related to life insurance accounting transactions.
  • Perform account reconciliations for general ledger accounts, including reserves, premiums, commissions, and reinsurance balances.
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes.
  • Support the preparation of financial statements and management reports.
  • Assist with statutory and GAAP reporting requirements specific to life insurance operations.
  • Review financial data for accuracy and investigate discrepancies.
  • Collaborate with actuarial, policy administration, and operations teams to reconcile financial and policy data.
  • Assist with regulatory filings and compliance documentation as required
  • Support internal and external audits by providing requested documentation and explanations.
  • Maintain organized documentation and support continuous improvement of accounting processes.
  • Provides follow-up notification to the end user or Business Consulting to ensure that entry or system errors are corrected.
  • Responds to questions from end user or Controller Division regarding system accounting or related issues as required.
