About the role HealthFitness is looking for an as-needed/fill-in Lifeguard Instructor to join the team at our client site located in Batavia, OH! We are looking for availability on Fridays evenings, Saturday and Sunday mornings. Run lifeguard certification courses on-site to certify candidates who will be hired to work on-site as Lifeguards.

Requirements

  • Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor Certification.
  • Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification.
  • Ability to react to emergency situations by quick movements, strenuous activity, and on occasion assist or lift persons in distress of varying weights.
  • Able to interact with people of all ages in a positive manner.
  • Be dependable, alert, and adaptable.
  • Demonstrates top notch instruction and possess excellent motivational skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous Lifeguarding instruction experience.
  • Current American Red Cross CPR/AED/First Aid Instructor Certification or willingness to obtain instructor bridge

Responsibilities

  • Communicates promptly regarding teaching availability, class assignments, and class planning preparations.
  • Plans and organizes personal class teaching outlines, methods and goals that support the general teaching outlines provided by the American Red Cross Lifeguard and CPR programs.
  • Organizes and directs activities of assigned participants to provide a high level of quality instruction for all students.
  • Supervising participants while they are practicing course skills and providing timely, positive, and corrective feedback as they learn.
  • Evaluating participants as they perform skills, focusing on critical performance steps as described in the American Red Cross skill charts.
  • Teaching course as designed -- following all course outlines, policies and procedures as noted in the instructor course documents.
  • Creating a non-threatening environment that is conducive to achieving the learning objectives.
  • Providing for the health and safety of participants by always ensuring: Manikins have been properly cleaned Course equipment is clean and in good working order Participants are aware of health precautions and guidelines concerning the transmission of infectious diseases All participants have the physical ability to perform the skills and know they can consult you if they have concerns about their physical ability to do so The classroom, aquatic facility, and all practice areas are free of hazards
  • Works with Training & Operations Assistant on an on-going basis to upgrade, improve and refine individual teaching skills related to teaching effective American Red Cross courses.
  • Communicating with the management team about any issues relating to the facilities, staff, or patrons.
