About The Position

Under the direction of the Recreation Coordinator, and with daily oversite from the Pool Manager or Recreation Specialist, the Lifeguard and Swim Instructor ensures the safety of patrons at the aquatic facility by preventing and responding to emergencies; the Lifeguard typically also assists with teaching swim lessons; the Swim Instructor also typically leads swim lessons and develops swim lesson plans. This position requires flexible work hours, including weekend work.

Requirements

• Minimum of 15 years of age.
• Possession of American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification, or current enrollment in Lifeguard Certification program that will be completed before the first day of employment.
• Knowledge of Aquatics safety, pool surveillance, and emergency response in an aquatic environment.
• General understanding of aquatic facility rules, policies, and procedures.
• Ability to demonstrate swimming skills to assist with swim lessons instruction.
• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with the public and with co-workers.
• Ability to work harmoniously and cooperatively with fellow employees and the public.
• Ability to demonstrate good decision making and emergency response skills.
• Ability to maintain facilities and equipment in a safe and clean manner.
• Proof of a negative Tuberculosis screening within the last two years is a pre-requisite for employment.

Nice To Haves

• Experience working and/or volunteering with kids preferred is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Maintains constant surveillance of patrons in the aquatics facility.
• Enforces pool rules.
• Acts immediately and appropriately to secure safety of patrons in the event of emergency.
• Provides emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical services.
• Performs various maintenance duties as directed to maintain a clean and safe facility.
• Prepares and maintains appropriate reports and documents.
• Provides excellent customer service.
• Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
