About The Position

The lifeguard oversees all waterfront activities, including water safety, and swim tests, plans and implements waterfront programming to engage campers and foster character development and promote healthy lifestyles. Provide oversight during activity times and as needed.

Requirements

  • Must be 21 years old for a Senior Lifeguard and 18 years old for a Junior Lifeguard.
  • Current Red Cross Lifeguard certification
  • First Aid/CPR required
  • Current Water Safety Instructor certification
  • Minimum one year experience as certified lifeguard
  • Position requires excellent organizational and time management skills and the ability to work independently.
  • Must be a team player who can work with diverse youth and adults.
  • The candidate must be able to be able to carry equipment and supplies, with or without accommodation.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise all aquatic activities at camp’s pool and waterfront area
  • Inventory and maintain equipment used in pool area
  • Initiate a water safety program in accordance with American Camping Association standards and Red Cross requirements
  • Follow established policies and procedures for pool area
  • Train camp staff to assist in emergency situations
  • Test and classify camp swimmers and assign staff to tend to swimmers needing assistance
  • Create new ideas that will improve the aquatics programming at camp
  • Prevent incidents from occurring by maintaining proper control over pool facility
  • Be able to recognize victims in distress, activities which may put swimmers at risk and physical hazards which could injure swimmers
  • Provide a safe environment for all staff and campers while at the waterfront
  • Provide engaging waterfront focused activities
  • Attend all required meetings and trainings
  • Act immediately and appropriately to secure safety of campers in the event of emergency
  • Responsible for first aid and rescue equipment to be at the pool area and available
  • Responsible for assisting camp staff in emergency procedures
  • Perform evaluation of program at end of season and ideas for next season
