Requirements

  • At least 15 years of age and enrolled in High School
  • Thorough knowledge and application of lifeguarding surveillance and rescue techniques.
  • An understanding of facility characteristics, rules, policies, and procedures
  • Certification in Lifeguard Training and First Aid from the American Red.
  • American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer or equivalent n or equivalent from the American Red Cross.
  • Any other certifications mandated by local or state laws
  • Pre-employment testing of Instructor skills and knowledge
  • Must have computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of patient information.
  • Must be proficient with Windows-style applications and keyboard.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals throughout the patient care process.
  • Knowledge and application of lifeguarding surveillance and rescue techniques

Responsibilities

  • Monitors the facility in order to prevent emergency situations.
  • Recognizes and respond effectively in emergencies.
  • Enforces all aquatic facility policies, rules, and regulations.
  • Completes records and reports as required by the American Red Cross.
  • Participates in regular in-service training programs.
  • Inspects the facility daily and reports any unsafe conditions or equipment to the supervisor.
  • Exercises regularly to maintain fitness level (strength and endurance).
  • Follows all American Red Cross Lifeguard standards.
  • Other related duties as required.
  • Remains knowledgeable on current federal, state and local laws, accreditation standards or regulatory agency requirements that apply to the assigned area of responsibility and ensures compliance with all such laws, regulations and standards.
