Summary: The Line Cook is expected to prepare food, help kitchen workers in the preparation of food items and set up stations for menus as instructed by the Sous Chef or Executive Chef and comply with safety, hygiene, and quality standards for food service.

Requirements

  • Prefer 3-5-year prior experience in food preparation in a full service restaurant and/or in an institutional setting.
  • Must have the ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence and memos.
  • Must have a valid Food Handlers Card; administered on site.
  • Must have a valid ServSafe Certification within 90 days of hire.
  • Knowledge of service standards and systems.
  • Must be able to follow directions.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
  • Ability to perform duties in a team environment.
  • Must demonstrate effective customer service skills.
  • Must be professional in attitude, demeanor and dress.
  • Good organizational skills and ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Secondary education is preferred.
  • Any equivalent combination of experience, education, and other qualifications may be considered.
  • The individual must have strong written communication skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with employees and clients at all levels of the organization, both verbally and in writing.
  • Varied working hours to include days, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed. Subject to callback during emergency conditions (severe weather, evacuation, post-disaster, etc.)

Responsibilities

  • Follow the seasonal lunch menu and five-week dinner menu to support HOA food production and meal service operations.
  • Review recipes and ingredients in advance to ensure all items are available to complete meal preparation.
  • Prepare menu items according to schedule while maintaining quality, presentation, and food safety standards.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and sanitary workstations at all times.
  • Prepare and maintain approved sanitizing solutions for cleaning towels and surfaces in accordance with health department standards.
  • Set up and organize the HOA serving line for both hot and cold food preparation during meal service.
  • Assist with plating and timely meal service to residents and guests.
  • Prepare room service and associate meals as needed in accordance with property policies.
  • Complete assigned cleaning duties and maintain kitchen cleanliness throughout each shift.
  • Clean and sanitize all equipment and workstations immediately following use.
  • Properly store leftovers and unused food products by covering, labeling, and dating items in accordance with food safety standards.
  • Coordinate with dishwashing staff to support daily kitchen preparation and operational needs.
  • Receive and check food or supply deliveries as assigned.
  • Secure walk-in coolers, freezers, and kitchen equipment at the end of service or shift as required.
  • Follow assigned work schedules, including start and end times, in accordance with company policies and applicable laws.
  • Follow all departmental, community, and company policies and procedures.
  • Comply with all applicable federal, state, and local health and safety regulations.
  • Attend required meetings and participate in mandatory and ongoing training as assigned.
  • Support community safety initiatives and maintain awareness of safety goals and procedures.
  • Maintain working knowledge of Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and emergency preparedness procedures.
  • Understand assigned responsibilities during emergency situations and respond appropriately.
  • Participate in associate engagement or satisfaction surveys as requested.
  • Respond to associate, resident, and guest requests in a timely, professional, and courteous manner.
  • Provide excellent customer service while maintaining a welcoming environment for residents and visitors.
  • Treat residents, guests, vendors, and coworkers with professionalism and respect.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
