About The Position

A line worker installs and fixes overhead distribution and transmission systems, which includes poles, cables, and electrical systems. Line Workers also fit, repair, and maintain underground cables and electrical equipment.

Requirements

Must be 18 years of age or older.
Ability to perform at varying heights above ground, in manholes and/or in confined spaces with proper Personal Protective Equipment.
Able to work with hands above head for extended periods of time.
Able to climb a power pole using climbing hooks and belt.
Able to drive all vehicles assigned to the line crew, operate digger derrick to set poles and use jackhammer, etc.
Available to work long hours and overtime during holidays, emergencies, weekends, etc. Subject to call out work.
Able to meet and maintain weight restrictions for bucket truck as identified by truck manufacturer.
Minimum 2 years experience in the electrical power line construction industry.
Ability to provide proof of work experience, schooling, and other certifications obtained during career.
Upon offer, employees may be required to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen, background, and/or MVR check.
Driver License Required, willingness to obtain a valid CDL within 90 days of employment preferred.
Willing to travel out of state for emergency storm work.

Responsibilities

Assists with installation, operation, maintenance and repair of overhead and underground electrical power lines and systems. Work is generally performed overhead.
Assists in the construction, operation, maintenance, and repair of distribution utility power lines.
Assists with service calls concerning power outages and electrical problems.
Receives training both in book/classroom skills and on the job skills. Must continue to pass ongoing training to precede to higher skill/job levels.
Operates motorized equipment, use hand tools, and perform routine maintenance on electrical equipment, machinery, and tools. Performs janitorial duties on equipment and in shop areas.
Stocks and services vehicles to be equipped to respond to emergency situations.
Work nights, weekends, and holidays for extended periods; may be required to perform duties as part of recovery force during emergencies and disasters.
Works at varying heights above ground, in manholes and/or in confined spaces with proper Personal Protective Equipment.
