This role focuses on developing strong foundational Linux engineering skills while contributing to automation, monitoring, and production system support. The position provides hands-on exposure to modern infrastructure tools and practices and builds the technical depth required to advance into senior engineering roles.

Requirements

  • Hands‑on experience supporting Linux systems in an enterprise or production environment.
  • Working knowledge of core Linux administration concepts including services, file systems, permissions, users/groups, and basic security practices.
  • Exposure to automation or configuration management tools (Ansible preferred) with the ability to follow and modify existing playbooks/scripts.
  • Basic Bash scripting experience, including the ability to read, troubleshoot, and make small enhancements.
  • Familiarity with monitoring/logging tools and observability concepts (metrics, logs, alerts, dashboards).
  • Foundational understanding of networking concepts including TCP/IP, DNS, and standard troubleshooting methods.
  • Exposure to virtualized environments (e.g., VMware) and how Linux systems operate within them.
  • Basic understanding of Git and version control principles; willingness to follow established DevOps and Infrastructure‑as‑Code practices.
  • Individuals must be authorized to work in the United States for Sonepar without VISA sponsorship now or in the future.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field OR equivalent practical experience.
  • Required Certification: Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) or .Linux Professional Institute Certification (LPIC)

Responsibilities

  • Linux Systems Administration & Support- Assist with the deployment, administration, and maintenance of Linux systems across production and non‑production environments. Perform routine operational tasks, monitor system health, and follow established standards and procedures.
  • Automation & Configuration Support- Support existing infrastructure automation using Ansible by maintaining playbooks, roles, and documentation. Assist with automating provisioning, configuration updates, and patching under the direction of senior engineers.
  • Monitoring & Observability Support- Help maintain monitoring and observability tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, and Loki. Contribute to dashboard updates, log review, alert triage, and basic performance analysis.
  • Troubleshooting & Incident Support- Provide first‑line and secondary support for Linux‑related issues. Troubleshoot system, application, and performance issues following documented procedures. Escalate complex problems as needed and participate in incident response and post‑incident reviews.
  • Platform, Patch & Infrastructure Support- Assist with Linux patching, vulnerability remediation, and OS lifecycle management.Support Linux workloads in virtualized environments and collaborate with infrastructure and networking teams.
