Primary Location: United States (US) - California - Santa Clara Function: Technology (CA) Title: Linux Engineer - 118814 Onsite/Remote:Onsite Position Your Responsibilities As a Linux Engineer for JD Intelligent Solutions, Blue River Technology located in Santa Clara, CA, you will: Collaborate with cross‑functional engineering teams to integrate existing internal solutions, align on shared architectures, and determine when to adopt common components versus develop custom implementations. Enhance and maintain the Yocto-based Linux system for a robotic tractor platform. Own the flashing and provisioning process for the devices on the tractor. Design and manage onboard networking (Ethernet, CAN, wireless) for robust communication. Implement, streamline, and maintain containerization for application deployment and isolation. Collaborate with hardware, software, and autonomy teams to ensure seamless integration. Troubleshoot and resolve system-level issues across the stack (bootloader, kernel, drivers, user space). Document processes, configurations, and best practices for internal teams. Preference is for candidates in Santa Clara, CA, however strong candidates in a John Deere Iowa office may be considered. Requirements

  • 7 or more years of experience in embedded Linux development, including BSP and kernel work.
  • Deep experience with Yocto or similar embedded Linux build systems.
  • Strong knowledge of device flashing, bootloaders (U-Boot, etc.), and system bring-up.
  • Proficiency with Docker and containerized application deployment.
  • Experience with networking protocols and configuration (Ethernet, VLANs, CAN, wireless).
  • Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills at both hardware and software levels.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.
  • Familiarity with RAUC or similar OTA update frameworks.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with autonomous vehicles, robotics, or industrial automation.
  • Familiarity with NVIDIA Jetson, ARM, or similar embedded platforms.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated testing for embedded systems.
  • Knowledge of security best practices for embedded Linux systems.
  • Experience with real-time operating systems or Linux RT patches.
  • Hands-on experience with configuration management tools (SaltStack, Ansible, etc.).
