About The Position

GDIT has a requirement for an experienced Linux Systems Administrator Senior to join our Scientific Modeling, Application, Visualization, Computational Science, Software, and Statistical Support (SMAVCS4) Team to support the Environmental Protection Agency. The role will support the Center for Computational Toxicology & Exposure (CCTE), a scientific organization working to support Agency decisions by providing solutions-driven research to rapidly evaluate the potential human health and environmental risks due to exposures to environmental chemicals and ensure the integrity of the freshwater environment and its capacity to support human well-being. We are seeking an experienced Linux Systems Administrator Senior to join our team to provide dedicated support for the advancement of CCTE code level developers in their creation of public application that service the scientific community.

Requirements

  • BA/BS in Information Systems, Information Technology, or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years of related experience in professional IT required, 4-6+ years strongly preferred
  • Working closely with Functional and Technical teams for OS upgrade (RHEL 6.x,7.x to RHEL8.x, and RHEL9.x) and Windows Server
  • Experienced in administering server-side technology and networked computing systems
  • Experienced in remediation of computing systems from Nessus scanning tool.
  • Familiarity with SQL PostgreSQL, and Mongo database operations
  • Familiarity Atlassian product suite and its operations
  • Previous experience with Intellj, Postman, VSCode, Node and ChemSketch
  • Familiarity with Docker container operations
  • Familiarity with application using for event monitoring and alerting tool to maintain server uptime, log capturing and security events.
  • Requestion DigiCert’s and installing the SSL certificates from DigiCert’s
  • US Citizenship Required: Yes

  • Experience working on Federal Sector Contracts
  • Professional Certification(s)
  • Familiarity with DevOps, ITIL Agile processes

Responsibilities

  • Configuring and maintaining the networked computer system, including hardware, system software, and applications.
  • Ensuring data is stored securely and backed up regularly
  • Diagnosing and resolving hardware, software, networking, and system issues when they arise
  • Replacing and upgrading defective or outdated components as necessary
  • Monitoring system performance to ensure everything runs smoothly and securely
  • Hardware sizing, Landscape Architecture and Storage planning
  • Planning and scheduling RHEL server upgrade/migration and Servers downtime
  • Planning and scheduling Physical 2 Virtual (P2V) migration
  • Installing and upgrading Atlassian Tools (Jira/Bitbucket/Confluence and Bamboo)
  • Atlassian tools system migration and Database migration to PostgreSQL database
  • Creating, updating, and organizing technical documentation and knowledge base for the team and other departments
