About The Position

The Local Driver – Yard Operation is responsible for operating tractor-trailer combinations locally, to support the core business embodied in our Chicago Heights Yard by transporting materials between company and customer facilities, rail yards, and/or work sites in a safe and timely manner. Driver will also be responsible for operating tractor-trailer combination utilizing flatbeds, flatbed poles and end dump trailers

Requirements

Must be at least 21 years of age
High school diploma or equivalent preferred
Class A CDL required (must have air brake endorsement and no manual transmission restrictions)
Motor vehicle record must not have any major driving offenses within the last three (3) years
At least 2 years of over-the-road driving experience required; flatbed driving experience preferred
Effective verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to read and write
Demonstrated strong mechanical and intermediate mathematical skills

Responsibilities

Operate a tractor-trailer combination safely and efficiently to transport assigned loads
Ensure all loaded materials are safely secured prior to and throughout transport
Inspect company vehicles/trailers and report necessary maintenance in accordance with policies and procedures
Check-in with the transportation department daily for assignments and updates
Participate in all job briefings, follow railroad protection limits, and conduct proper radio communications
Practice proper housekeeping with clean, properly maintained vehicles, tools, and equipment
Accurately complete and maintain a drivers log in accordance with requirements
Ensure compliance with all safety requirements, policies, and procedures
Report all job site incidents and injuries to Transportation Manager immediately
Complete and maintain all required safety training and certifications
