About the position

Care and Share exists to ensure that the one in nine Southern Coloradans at risk of hunger have access to healthy and nutritious food to thrive. We know that children without adequate access to food cannot develop successfully, families cannot plan for their future, and seniors find it more difficult to remain independent. Responsibilities

  • Operates a box truck according to applicable state and federal transportation laws.
  • Navigates inclement weather and traffic safely.
  • Maintains a positive relationship with our retail donors and partner agencies.
  • Represents Care and Share, helps to resolve concerns, and communicates issues to the main office.
  • Safely maneuvers trucks into tight and/or small loading and unloading areas.
  • Completes daily route in a timely manner, obeying all traffic laws and observing all safety regulations.
  • Loads and unloads pallets of food, using a forklift and pallet jack.
  • Weighs and sorts all retail donations and completes documentation using an Incoming Product Donation (IPD) form.
  • Reviews the manifest to ensure all pallets are loaded.
  • Maintains signed invoices, shipping bills of lading, and manifests; delivers documentation to the Transportation Manager when the delivery route is complete.
  • Routinely checks oil, water, fuel, and air; reports maintenance malfunctions to the Transportation Manager.
  • Documents pre- and post-trip inspections.
  • Regularly monitors the refrigerator unit temperatures using both the thermostat display and temperature guns.
  • Ensures the trailer is clean and free from pests.
  • Follows Feeding America and AIB regulations to ensure food safety.

Requirements

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Teams, Outlook).
  • Able to exhibit patience with traffic, other drivers on the road, and upset partner agencies.
  • Ability to deescalate and provide good customer service.
  • Must have astute awareness of surroundings and make quick decisions.
  • Extensive knowledge of the rules of the road.
  • Must be mechanically inclined.
  • Must be able to work with little or no supervision and have a working knowledge of daily routines.
  • Must be comfortable using various equipment including but not limited to pallet jack (electric and manual), shrink wrap machine, and power washer.
  • Must be able to receive and maintain a ServSafe® Food Handler Certification.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous professional driving experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with Colorado Springs preferred.

Benefits

  • Temporary position expected to end after the third week of October 2025.
