Due to program requirements, this particular position needs to be filled by a person with a disability JOB DESCRIPTION JOB TITLE: Locksmith SCA OCCUP: 23510 LOCKSMITH SALARY GRADE: Federal Wage Determination or Collective Bargaining Agreement FLSA STATUS: Nonexempt APPROVAL DATE: June 2014 POSITION SUMMARY: Under general supervision, the Locksmith installs, repairs, modifies, and opens a variety of locking mechanisms found on doors, desks, compartments, mobile equipment, safes, and vaults.
Requirements
- High School diploma, GED required
- Three (3) years progressively responsible experience, typically acquired through on-the-job training or through a formal apprenticeship training program, or equivalent training and experience
- Basic math and computer skills
- Knowledge of tools and equipment common to the locksmith trade
- Effective communication and customer service skills to act responsively to customer inquiries and requests, and escalate the more difficult matters appropriately
- Security clearance may be required at some locations
- GSA Safe & Vault Technician Certification may be required.
- Valid driver’s license required for this position at most locations.
Responsibilities
- Examines locking mechanisms and installs new units.
- Disassembles unit and replaces worn tumblers, springs, and other parts.
- Repairs parts by filing, drilling, chiseling and grinding.
- Opens door locks by moving lock pick in cylinder or opening safe locks by listening to lock sounds, or drilling.
- Makes new or duplicate keys, using key cutting machine
- Changes combinations by inserting new or repaired tumblers into lock.
- Establishes keying systems for buildings
- Install and repair panic hardware
- Frequent travel between facilities.
- Complies with PRIDE’s safety program and adheres to proper safety practices
- Other duties as assigned.
