Long-Term Substitute Teacher, 5th Grade (August 3rd - September 11th) At The Children’s School (TCS), our community and curriculum intentionally reflect the world in which we live. The Children’s School seeks an experienced full-time Long-Term Substitute Teacher for 5th Grade to start August 3, 2026. The Long-Term Substitute Lead Teacher at TCS is responsible for student learning, classroom instruction and management, and curriculum creation/implementation, in accordance with the mission and philosophy of the School in the core subject areas or in a specialty area, depending on the teaching role and grade-level position. Day to day, a Long-Term Substitute Lead Teacher will: Communicate, collaborate, plan, and work effectively in teaching partnerships Motivate, nurture, and challenge students Play a meaningful role in each student’s daily school life Co-plan engaging curriculum and contribute to the effective operation of the overall educational program, Help plan and carry out daily activities and evaluate the effectiveness of those activities, Establish and maintain a creative, self-directed, collaborative and culturally inclusive learning environment Gather formative and formal feedback about student progress to guide student learning Assist with evaluating progress, report writing and family conferences, Ensure the safety and well-being of the children, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Minimum Qualifications: Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree Applicable experience working with children through a child development lens Understands the identity development and learning process of early adolescents Skilled at establishing meaningful relationships with students as a critical foundation for student engagement and academic achievement Possess the following characteristics: Alignment with the TCS Philosophy of Learning and values Alignment with progressive pedagogical practices Child-centeredness Authenticity Contagious optimism and enthusiasm Playfulness Honesty and Integrity Collaboration-mindedness, empathy, self-awareness and reflective skills Intrinsic motivation, initiative and high standards Adaptation, resilience, iterative mindset and willingness to take risks, fail and recover Critical thinking, inquisitiveness and boundless curiosity and enthusiasm Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Comfort in the use of digital technology and media Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree in Education, Teaching and/or relevant subject area, and at least three (3) years of experience teaching children in a classroom setting, preferably in upper elementary and/or middle grades.
