About The Position

The LOTO Mechanical Technician will support the safe construction and commissioning of mission-critical data center infrastructure. In this role, you will implement and manage lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures across a wide range of mechanical systems, ensuring equipment is properly isolated, de-energized, and verified prior to work. Working closely with commissioning teams, mechanical contractors, and safety personnel, you will play a key role in preventing the release of hazardous energy, maintaining compliance with OSHA standards, and supporting system startup, testing, and turnover activities in complex, high-performance environments where safety, precision, and accountability are critical to successful project delivery.

Requirements

  • Trade certification in a relevant field (e.g., pipefitting, boilermaking, mechanical systems).
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in mechanical construction, commissioning, or maintenance.
  • Strong knowledge of LOTO procedures and mechanical energy isolation practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and P&IDs.
  • Must provide own steel-toed work boots; other PPE will be supplied.
  • Must be able to reliably commute to the work site daily or have plans to relocate before starting work.
  • Must be comfortable working a rotational schedule, which includes day and night shifts as well as weekend work, based on project needs.

Responsibilities

  • Perform mechanical lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures on pumps, valves, piping systems, and HVAC equipment.
  • Isolate and release stored energy, including pressure, hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical energy, ensuring systems are safe for personnel working on or near locked-out equipment.
  • Execute LOTO activities across critical mechanical infrastructure, including chilled water systems, cooling towers, pumps, piping systems, CRAH/CRAC units, air handling equipment, heat exchangers, and associated plant equipment.
  • Support commissioning activities, including equipment startup, shutdown, and system testing.
  • Apply and manage group lockout procedures and lock boxes when multiple teams are involved.
  • Maintain accurate LOTO logs, isolation records, and permit documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with site safety policies and OSHA hazardous energy control requirements.
  • Coordinate with commissioning teams, mechanical contractors, and safety personnel to ensure safe and efficient execution of work.
  • Develop and maintain single-line documentation (or system flow diagrams/P&IDs) to clearly communicate systems impacted by lockout activities.
